As the writer and teacher Stephen Levine put it, “To heal is to touch with love that which was previously touched by fear.” A basic guiding principle in my work is that, when we are able to really see and accept where we are, and who we are, we begin to heal and grow. There is a trust I have found in this, that if we attend to what comes up in this place, it will lead us through.

My beloved Hospice patients taught me so much over the years about what is important in the end. For lasting impact, I have found the foundation of personal growth must be the fostering of a deep sense of worthiness exactly as one is. Although a commonly-held belief, self-judgment and self-criticism do not motivate us to do better; they keep us stuck in the very patterns we seek to avoid. Only when we learn to let go of unhelpful narratives about who we are can we realize our full potential.

From taking a new job to dropping habits that don\'t work for you anymore, personal growth can be an exciting- and overwhelming- time. I help folks stay focused on their goals and their values while expanding their horizons.

Therapy is a great place to learn about the patterns you’ve developed (cognitive/behavioral/emotional/relational patterns), explore what has contributed to the development of these patterns, and work to change patterns that aren’t working for you anymore.

As a Personal Growth Specialist, I view the human condition as a giant opportunity to keep expanding awareness and exercising creativity to meet challenges. Journaling, collaging, dreamwork, I Ching, as well as targeted tools like CBT exercises can be utilized to open minds and break up outworn thought patterns. A personal growth approach can make even the most difficult times more meaningful.

Our own beliefs about ourselves, and our place in the world often hinder us from making positive changes. Fear of success, fear of failure, fear in general can keep us stuck in unhealthy patterns which we often can't distinguish from healthy ones. Sometimes we just get the feeling, 'Something is wrong with how I am living.' Growth and change start by simply giving it a voice.

This is a vital part of counseling to feel like you are growing in ways that are helpful. I can offer specific activities and exercises to do outside of the session to help make the change that is needed.

It\'s said that \'if you aren\'t growing, you are dying\'. Making changes in our lives and seeking more for ourselves in meaningful ways is necessary yet sadly too rare. It seems society and mainstream culture want us to accept distraction and hollow connection in place of genuine experience. Strive for more and learn ways to define your value, meaning, and the path to more from your life.

Who am I? Where is my life headed? What does it all mean? These are questions we\'re sometimes able to keep out, but there are times they bubble to the surface. When that happens, let\'s work on figuring out what your values are, what you want from the future, and how to get there.

Sometimes individuals want to grow sexually and need a safe place to talk about their fears, habits, shame, or simply explore new ways of feeling sexual or being sexual. I can offer a space for you to do your own personal growth work in the area of sexuality, regardless of the topic whether you are partnered or not.

As clients have a greater understanding and ability to manage the major impediments in their lives (such as depression, anxiety, etc.) general self-care and an ability to go passed immediate concerns and into areas of long term wellness begins to emerge. I am happy to help clients delve into these areas.

I am a therapist today because I was able to do the work to re-discover my true self and passion for helping others with the help of “The Artist’s Way” by Julia Cameron. Cameron’s work, along with others, such as Thich Nhat Hanh and Pema Chödrön, informs my therapeutic work with clients interested in continued growth and personal development.

I often like to relate personal growth to trees. In order to grow trees need to be in the right environment, with the proper soil, water, and light to grow. Sometimes trees need to shed their branches so they can reach new heights. I work with you to help identify your values, strengths, and grounding so you can grow towards your light.

In the end, all therapy focuses on personal growth. Very often our complaints stem from some fundamental unwillingness to grow. Childhood wounding leaves us hoping for a parental figure (or lover) to fill a void in our lives. The maturity that comes from looking at and facing our lives and the disappointments in our lives and taking responsibility for moving forward is a life-long process.

I have worked with many individuals on ways to nourish their inner development and learn to listen to their callings in life. For this work, I draw from my experiences in the wilderness and with the Animas Valley Institute. I believe that if we learn to hear who we really, really are, that so much in life become clear and simple in this complex web we live in today.

Within every one of us is a story of anguish, perseverance, and confidence that arises from heart-wrenching dilemmas. It's important that we face challenges that lead to growth and reflect on the changes that will lead to a more fulfilling life. Viktor Frankl said it best, “When we are no longer able to change a situation, we are challenged to change ourselves.”

Does your life seem unrecognizable and you are wondering how you got here? Do things that once made you happy, have no impact on you at all anymore?
