My Ideal Client

Have you and your partner grown more distant lately? Has the COVID era got you asking yourself difficult questions? Or perhaps do you find yourself chasing short-term relationships, never quite sure if you are making the right choices? Is your sex life less satisfying than you think it could be? I love working with individuals and couples who need help getting un-stuck and on the way to more satisfaction and connection.

My Approach to Helping

I borrow the strengths and wisdom of many sources and theories while grounding my work in the latest science and evidence-based practices. We will work together to uncover the roots of your suffering while building on the strengths you already possess. I see my role as two-sided. I carry a deep sense of compassion for people that are struggling, and will support you and accept you as you are. At the same time, I compare myself to a personal trainer, and I will encourage you to do one more mental 'push up', to dig into your core identity, to deepen your growth and strengthen your mental and emotional muscles. You are capable of so much.

Why I am a Good Fit for You

I have a Master's degree in Clinical Psychology from Antioch University. I have worked with men, women, and couples since 1997. I am experienced in a number of topics, including sexual issues and anger management. I have a lot of experience working with adults who were traumatized or abused as kids. I understand how hard it is for people, especially men, to start therapy; I am glad you're here looking. I highly value lifelong learning, so I am constantly incorporating what I gain from attending lectures and reading academic journals into my practice.

Techniques I Use

Specialties

  • Mindfulness-based External link

Mindfulness has been a successful way of life for thousands of years. Based on Eastern traditions it is a non-theistic philosophy, grounded in our core values and beliefs. Practicing mindfulness improves attention, focus, effectiveness, tolerance, acceptance, and compassion.

  • Cognitive Behavioral (CBT) External link

Much of my career has been working with individuals and groups from a cognitive behavioral perspective. There is a strong connection between our thoughts and beliefs, our emotional experiences, and the choices we make. Developing an understanding of that chain and the skills to influence it makes a significant difference in your quality of life.

Issues I Treat

Specialties

  • Sexual Problems External link

Sexual issues are often the least talked about, yet the source of many complications, misunderstandings, and hurt feelings. I believe everyone has the right to a healthy and fulfilling sex life. Together we can work through the issues that keep you from a satisfying sex life. I am BDSM/kink friendly and comfortable working with the polyamory/ENM community.

  • Anger Management External link

Anger is often the only 'acceptable' emotion for men to display, while for women it is often 'unacceptable' to show anger. I will help you uncover what is behind the anger and resolve the source while developing the skills to more appropriately express yourself.

  • PTSD External link

Having a lengthy forensic background, I am personally experienced with issues of vicarious trauma and burnout that many caregivers face, especially first responders. Together we will help you recover and strengthen your resilience against future traumatic exposure. I also have had many clients who are adults that were abused as children.

  • Adjustment Disorder External link

Life throws many curveballs at us. I will assist you in building and re-building your identity as you adjust to the unexpected turns your life takes.
