Emelie Gagliardo

Professional Counselor Intern

Everyone is different and has encountered their own set of challenges that make them who they are. Why not see our uniqueness as our greatest strengths? I truly enjoy working with people and I believe that the therapy process should be both transformative and fun.

My Approach

I work with adults, teens, children, couples, and families! I use Play Therapy, Attachment Theory, and a Collaborative Problem Solving lens in my work with families and little ones, but use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Narrative Therapy, and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy approaches working with adults and teens, and a more Emotion Focused approach with my work with couples. I believe in the cultural context and social justice model and always consider intergenerational traumas in my practice.

My Background

I completed my graduate education at Lewis and Clark College here in Portland, and have since worked in community mental health, Multnomah County schools, and residential treatment. As a student, I focused on research around sexual health, expressive arts therapies, open relationships, and complex trauma. I have previously worked as a psychology instructor for middle and high school students, as well as worked for years providing support to low-income first generation college-bound students.
