My Ideal Client

Are you feeling disconnected or in conflict with yourself or in your relationships? Are you experiencing sex and intimacy issues? Are you in need of support from other women who can relate to you? Are you feeling anxious, depressed and isolated due to your current situation? I love helping people feel less overwhelmed and more connected to themselves and others. Through collaboration we will identify what is important to you for your happiness and work through any barriers.

My Background and Approach

I hold a Master’s Degree in Marriage, Couple and Family Therapy from Lewis and Clark Graduate School of Education and Counseling in Portland, OR. Major coursework included sex therapy, family and relationship life cycles with a strong emphasis on social justice in therapy and outside systems. I have extensive experience working with victims of sexual assault, families affected by HIV and other terminal illness, along with a background in family and civil mediation. I also hold a bachelor’s degree in Peace and Conflict and a minor degree in Philosophy. I work from a systemic framework, meaning I acknowledge the constraints and or strengths outside systems (i.e. school, work, court and religious communities) have on individuals, couples/partners and families. I also take into consideration biological, psychological, social and spiritual aspects of people’s lives. I am strength-based, I believe in focusing on the strengths, resiliency and successes of individuals and relationships.

My Approach to Helping

My approach is integrative, collaborative, humanistic and eclectic. Trust is at the core of my practice. My goal is to establish trust from the start so clients can feel safe and comfortable opening up about the most vulnerable parts of their lives and selves. I know a client's trust is precious and I am always honored to receive it so that I can help and support each person the best to my ability. Without trust in the therapeutic relationship, the work can get stuck. It can feel endless and hopeless. Clients would say I maintain a trusting relationship where they can not only be open and honest but I can as well. It is my job to help each individual and relationship identify what is important and provide them tools to achieve health and happiness in their lives. I will kindly be direct, I will gently push and I will guide us to address difficult areas or behaviors of your life and relationships that may be creating barriers to growth and happiness.

Techniques I Use

Specialties

  • Couples Counseling External link

As a marriage, couple and family therapist I am trained to work with couples and I welcome all partnering arrangements (monogomous/open/polyamourous/ monogomous/heterosexual/same sex). I also specialize in sex therapy that is inclusive and non judgmental.

  • Nonviolent Communication External link

I have been trained in conflict resolution and mediation. I hold a BA in Peace and Conflict. Miscommunication is at the root of conflict. I can guide better communication and help resolve conflict you are experiencing in your life.

  • Family Therapy External link

As a marriage couple and family therapist I am trained in family systems. Families are unique, how they are configured, family rules and expectations, family roles and family of origin. Each family goes through family life cycles. I approach family therapy systemically and consider all the systems and relationships the family is involved in.

Issues I Treat

Specialties

  • Women's Issues External link

Women continue to be systemically oppressed in the systems we move in (ex. relationships, reproductive/human rights, family, work, healthcare, law). Women can gather together to share wisdom, strength, empathy, encouragements, compassion and support to help one another move through whatever is hard.

  • Family Conflict External link

I have extensive training in family systems and relationships.
