My Approach to Helping

I am fairly eclectic in my orientation to therapy. I believe strongly in identifying what works for each client and tailoring therapy based upon such. With that being said, my personal goal in session is to ensure my clients are able to identify their progress as it is being made, and to ensure my clients are able to see value in their therapeutic work. I understand the value of my client's time and thus, work to always remain keenly aware of each clients personal time commitment to therapy; tailoring interventions and therapeutic approach to meet these needs.

My Personal Beliefs and Interests

I am a licensed clinical social worker in Oregon and Washington. I earned my Master of Social Work degree from University of Nebraska, Omaha, and have been involved in the helping profession since 2007. Over that time, I have worked to build a vast array of experiences ranging from survivors of domestic violence, to those struggling with addiction issues and trauma, to individuals making life transitions, as well as extensively working with adolescents facing anxiety, depression, adjustment issues, self-esteem and issues related to personal identification. I am most passionate about furthering my work with teens and young adults.

Techniques I Use

Specialties

  • Relational  External link

I believe firmly that the therapeutic environment serves as a microcosm for the life we live outside of session. Thus, I spend a great deal of time working through relational issues in the context of the therapeutic relationship to help individuals develop and maintain healthy, satisfying relationships throughout their lives.

  • Mindfulness-based External link

As humans living in a technological age, it is easy to become caught up in anxiety-provoking and unhealthy cycles of stress and excessive worry that ultimately lead us to a dead-end. Thus, I rely heavily on mindfulness-based practice in order to help individuals slow down their internal process and find joy and gratitude in moment-to-moment experiences.

  • Cognitive Behavioral (CBT) External link

I have been trained through my graduate school education and over 50 hours in CEUs on CBT methods for treating anxiety and depression. I believe strongly in the CBT tenant of the connection between thoughts, feelings and behaviors.

Issues I Treat

Specialties

  • Child or Adolescent Issues External link

I have over ten years of experience providing mental health treatment to children and adolescents in Nebraska, Oregon and Washington. I have over 100 hours in ongoing education working with this population and am certified as a child specialist in the state of Washington.

  • Self-Esteem External link

Many mental health issues contain elements of low self-esteem, and many diagnoses can contribute to feelings of low self-esteem. Thus, I investigate and explore issues of self-esteem with every one of my clients. Additionally, working with teenagers has provide hours of work focused solely on exploring self and identifying how individuals interact with the world around them.

  • Adjustment Disorder External link

I have worked with many teenagers and young adults who struggle with major life transitions. Honoring the intensity of these experiences and helping clients successfully move forward has been a cornerstone of my work in community mental health.
