My Ideal Client

Are you struggling to define yourself socially or professionally? Is anxiety or depression hindering your enjoyment of life? My clients have often come to a place in life where they feel stuck and are in search of a new direction.

My Approach to Helping

I utilize an integrative approach drawing from mindfulness, CBT, and humanistic therapy systems. The focus is on what is happening in your life TODAY and how you want it to look differently. I strive to provide a safe, non-judgmental space so that you don’t need to continue struggling on your own.

I specialize in treating anxiety, depression, relationship, and identity concerns. Depending on your needs, we can take a directive approach targeting specific symptoms (e.g. social anxiety, excessive worry, panic attacks) or a less structured approach where you can reflect upon your life and identify what you want to pursue.

Together we can uncover the patterns in your thoughts, behaviors, and relationships that are holding you back, and establish a happier and healthier way of being in the world. I utilize a collaborative client-centered approach to provide the balance between supporting and challenging you that is necessary for promoting growth and change.

My Personal Beliefs and Interests

I have studied psychology for a decade, completing a MA in General Psychology from NYU in 2007, and a PsyD in Clinical Psychology from Pacific University in 2014. My dissertation examined the influence of significant experiences (for example: a traumatic event or a spiritual emergency) on shaping one’s worldview and approach to living. For Internship I worked for Seattle University's Counseling and Psychological Services, providing individual and group therapy to students. Prior to operating a private practice I worked in a crisis line call center which I found to be challenging and rewarding work.
Techniques I Use

Specialties

  • Mindfulness-based External link

Mindfulness involves attuning your attention to your immediate experience, without getting caught up in judgement. Practicing mindfulness allows you to live more fully in the present moment.

  • Interpersonal External link

Rogerian / humanistic / person centered

  • Cognitive Behavioral (CBT) External link

CBT involves identifying and changing the maladaptive patterns in your thoughts and behaviors that are keeping problems stuck in place.

Issues I Treat

Specialties

  • Personal Growth External link

Stagnation can occur in any sphere of life: social, marital, spiritual, career, or otherwise. Counseling can help rejuvenate these areas and bring greater satisfaction and fulfillment.

  • Anxiety External link

Anxiety can show up in a variety of ways: physically (eg. restlessness, fatigue), mentally (eg. racing thoughts, constant worry), and behaviorally (eg. avoiding places or activities, compulsions). Anxiety disorders manifest in characteristic ways that can often be addressed directly utilizing cognitive-behavioral methods of treatment without the need for medication.

  • Depression External link

Friends and family often have trouble understanding depression and wonder why you can't just snap out of it. I have suffered from this condition myself, and value this experience for the insights it has provided me in helping others. Although there is no magic fix, making small changes in a few different areas can help you cope and recover.
