My Approach to Helping

Therapy is first and foremost about relationship. I provide ample space for you to be and express who you are. In technical terms, I work primarily from a Sensorimotor Psychotherapy model which builds upon traditional psychotherapeutic techniques and principles, but approaches the body as central in providing information about psychological processes. Mindfulness (focusing on the present moment) is a key skill in my work. Theoretical principles and treatment approaches from both the mental health and body psychotherapy traditions are integrated in this approach. I can often adapt my approach to fit your needs.

My Personal Beliefs and Interests

I have a PhD in counseling psychology from Washington State University in Pullman, WA. I also have a master's degree in health education/health promotion from Whitworth College in Spokane, WA. I have specialized training in the treatment of trauma and attachment trauma through the Sensorimotor Psychotherapy Institute. I am currently in their most advanced training for certification as a Sensorimotor Psychotherapy clinician. I have completed Level I EAGALA training in Equine Assisted Psychotherapy. I have training in DBT, Motivational Interviewing, CBT, mindfulness and psychodynamic therapy. I am Lakota; an enrolled member of the Rosebud Sioux tribe. I welcome the opportunity to work with Native people in particular. I have worked with Native people for 8 years in urban Indian, Tribal, and IHS settings.
