Therapy is a process and can help calm the storm, allowing room for self discovery, and positive change. Whether we are working long or short-term, we will allow each session to move in the direction needed at that time. My style is to be honest, accepting, respectful, spontaneous, intelligent, creative, and compassionate. You will have full permission to be and express all of who you are. I work from a client-centered perspective and I believe each person has within them the ability to heal and is ultimately the expert on their own lives. My role is to collaborate with you on the journey of healing, self expression, and identifying and honoring your unique strengths. As your witness, I will offer my presence, insights, knowledge and deep listening, as well as provide you with experiences and skills aimed at assisting you in healing, growth, and living in alignment with your self-identified values. In addition, I use the creative process whenever possible and welcome.
I draw from many disciplines and personal life experience. My formal education includes a BFA from Colorado State University and teacher education from University of California at San Diego. I earned my MSW from the University of Utah in 2004. I completed a certificate program in Person Centered Expressive Arts Therapy and level 1 and 2 training in EMDR Therapy through EMDRIA. Since 2000, I have attended many professional trainings and workshops including Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), trauma therapy, mindfulness based psychotherapy, and sexual assault crisis intervention training. I regularly attend conferences, professional trainings, seminars and ongoing peer consultation. Clinical Experience: Therapist since 2003, Private Practice since 2006, Supervisor for MSW interns and CSWA's since 2008, Senior Therapist at a Rape Recovery 4.5 years, Therapist at an outpatient adult substance abuse treatment center.
