I discovered ACT as a treatment modality when I worked exclusively in an eating disorder clinic. The interventions and strategies resonated with me and I have since spent time getting trained to use ACT with individuals who are experiencing distress due to many different mental health conditions.
In my professional life I strive to see every client as an unique individual and therefore one specific therapy is not going to be appropriate for everyone. With that, I prioritize ongoing education to become proficient in many different therapeutic approaches that range from behavioral (DBT, CBT) to psychodynamic so I can best support the unique individual.
CBT is a evidence based intervention that I employ to assist individuals to identify distressing negative thought patterns along with creating peace around situations that they can not control. I will often couple the intervention of CBT with mindfulness to optimize this strategy.
Using my education in child development, I work with parents to identify their struggles with parenting (be it a one time issue or an on going parenting struggle) and develop a plan to support the entire family system.
Along with supporting individuals diagnosed with an eating disorder in outpatient therapy, I have also worked in a partial hospitalization/intensive outpatient eating disorder treatment center. I continue to attend continuing education and seek out ongoing new research to offer individuals I work with the most effective treatment for overcoming an eating disorder.
I have a solid background using mindfulness along with other evidence based interventions (CBT, ACT, DBT) to support individuals struggling with anxiety.
Through my work on a college campus, I have extensive experience working with young adults who are learning to manage their ADHD symptoms independently. Together we work to create a safe space, without judgement, where they can explore their limitations and create strategies to attain their personal/educational/career goals in spite of these difficulties.
Using evidence based approaches we will work together to find both immediate and longer term strategies for increasing mood and improving daily life.
