My Approach to Helping

My framework is largely based in mindfulness therapy. I also utilize techniques from cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), narrative therapy, collaborative problem solving and brief solution focused therapy (to name a few). My practice is trauma-informed, inclusive and accepting of people from all backgrounds.

My Personal Beliefs and Interests

I obtained a MA degree from Lewis & Clark College- Graduate School of Counseling Psychology in 2010. A portion of my graduate coursework was completed in Mumbai, India in 2008. Prior to that, I received BA degrees in Psychology and French. Following a year of living and studying in France, I worked as a French teacher of language immersion for 8 years. My travels throughout the world have connected me to a variety of experiences that have helped cultivate a practice that values and honors diversity and cultural competency. I have also completed certification courses in both Advanced Herbal Studies here in Oregon and Crystal Healing in Hawaii. I am thrilled to have integrated so many different skills from my life experiences. They truly make me who I am today and inform my work on so many levels.

Techniques I Use

  • Mindfulness-based External link

My post-graduate continuing education has largely focused on a variety of trainings in Mindfulness-based therapy through institutions that include but are not limited to Lewis & Clark College and Pine Street Sangha. I have incorporated the tenants of mindfulness in my own personal practice over the last several years and work with clients to teach them meditation, concepts & daily practice tools.

  • Family Systems External link

As an LMFT, my framework for family therapy is rooted in Family Systems Theory. My entire graduate coursework was taught from this lens. I approach presenting problems by examining the systems that the individual is a part of. I don't believe that change happens in isolation but that in family work there is a shared responsibility for all participants active in therapy to be part of the solution.

  • Cognitive Behavioral (CBT) External link

Thoughts, feelings and behaviors have an undeniable link to one another. In order to change one, attention must be given to them all. I worked in community mental health for over 8 years, wherein CBT was a primary approach to many presenting problems, thus I gained extensive first-hand experience using this theory and it's techniques.

Issues I Treat

  • Coronavirus/COVID-19 External link

In light of the current global pandemic, it is vitally important to tend to your mental health. If you are seeking support right now, I am available and ready to help you navigate this challenging time- to learn how to sit with uncomfortable feelings, validate the range of emotions, build resiliency, grieve, find peace and ease anxiety and depression. My appointments are conducted via tele-health.

  • Postpartum External link

Having gone through the experience of becoming a mother, I understand the transition into parenthood. This can be a very special, yet confusing time, and feeling supported is more important than ever. Whether you are experiencing depression, anxiety or trauma, I work with parents on how to navigate that transition into caring for yourselves while simultaneously caring for a new little human.

  • Personal Growth External link

Personal growth is my favorite area of focus, not only with my clients, but in my own life. When we tend to our own growth, it positively impacts everything in our lives. We cannot find the answers outside of ourselves because our truth lies within us. I will help you get in touch with your truth so that you can be in charge of your own life and experience the rewards of growth.

  • ADHD External link

Over the years I have worked with countless children and adults with a diagnosis of ADHD. My approach to ADHD is informed by techniques of Collaborative Problem Solving, skill-building, psycho-education and developing personal practices to help you experience success, find focus, pursue your life goals and be able to have meaningful relationships.

  • Depression External link

Depression can be overwhelming, creating confusion and/or isolation. I don't feel that people are meant to go through it alone. Having support and access to resources can shift depressive symptoms from feeling unbearable to manageable. Using CBT and mindfulness techniques, I can help you create tools that work for you.
