My Approach

As a solution focused therapist, I work collaboratively with you and/or significant other(s) toward creating practical solutions to a variety of issues. In many instances by the time you first come to my office, you have already begun resolving some of your problems. In the first session, I work closely with you in discovering the steps you have taken toward resolution and what you can do to promote or continue these actions . Specific goals are identified, reviewed, and periodically evaluated throughout therapy. Depending on your unique set of circumstances I integrate therapeutic techniques such as mindfulness practice, collaborative problem solving, dialectical behavioral therapy, or cognitive behavioral therapy. With children and adolescents I use their personal interests, art, psycho-educational games, mindfulness practice, and therapeutic play, quickly developing a working relationship. Family are often included in the therapy to support and validate progress.

My Background

I received a Bachelors in Social Work at University of Oregon and a Masters in Social Work at Portland State University. I completed clinical supervision under a licensed clinical social worker with teaching and expertise in the Brief Solution Focused Therapy. I have over 30 years experience working as a social worker in school and treatment centers providing support and counseling to children, adolescents and their families. Using solution focused therapy, family therapy, group counseling, art, play, and social skills training models, I quickly developed working relationships with children and their families. In parent consultation and support groups, I offered many proven strategies and resources to parents struggling to relate with your child/adolescent. While working in schools, I began a private practice in 1995. Now working solely as a private practitioner, I continue to utilize these skills with a broad spectrum of clients and circumstances.
