These therapists are knowledgable about sex workers and do not shame or judge people that work in the sex industry. Whether you’re an erotic dancer, escort, involved in pornography, or engaged in another sex-based profession, there are often stigmas around this kind of work, making it difficult to openly share experiences and feelings with people outside of the industry. These counselors know the assumptions that sex workers often face– that they’re sex trafficking victims, “daddy issued”, or “broken”– and know that these assumptions are far from true. Instead, the mental health issues faced by sex workers tend to be related to the social stigma they face, lack of cultural support, and sex shaming.
