My Approach to Helping

I want to help you blaze your trail and achieve positive outcomes in your journey of growth and self-actualization! I strive to build safe therapeutic relationships with my clients, which research shows leads to better therapy outcomes. I offer individual counseling to adults and teens and couples/relationship counseling.

My Personal Beliefs and Interests

I believe people are innately driven to grow and overcome obstacles through the resolution of trauma and other adverse experiences. Sometimes, we need support navigating barriers to our progress. Across a three-decade career I have spent many years advocating for LGBTQIA+ and BIPOC individuals while sharing knowledge and mentoring new counselors in challenges specific to intersectionality and discrimination among a range of underrepresented populations. I have worked as a high-level administrator in both academic and social service settings and taught graduate and undergraduate level courses. In my most recent role as Director of Counseling Services at the National University of Natural Medicine and in private practice, I thrived when working with creative, nonconforming individuals.

Whether discovering or understanding questions related LGBTQ+ identity, or seeking a LGBTQ+ therapist to address intersecting issues, I am here for you. I am kink and poly aware, sex and body positive, and have focused much of my 30+ years in practice on trans, non-binary and queer health. I provide therapeutic support for those exploring, preparing for or engaged in gender affirming medical procedures. Call me if you're seeking a therapist who will not pathologize your identity.

  • Anxiety External link

Anxiety is a fear response that stimulates us to take protective or proactive action - fight, flight, or freeze! Everyone feels anxiety, but when it undermines your wellbeing, therapy can help. I specialize in Control Mastery Theory, a psychodynamic theory that helps disconfirm self-limiting beliefs and emotions giving rise to anxiety and depression. As we disconfirm these beliefs and emotions through the therapy relationship, you can be released from the bonds of anxiety.

  • Depression External link

Are you feeling bad about lacking the will to accomplish basic tasks? Do you find yourself going though motions but feeling "blah," while everyone else thinks you're okay? Depression is common in the US – a 2020 article in JAMA Network reported 27.8% of US Adults experienced moderate to severe depression in 2019, 3x higher than pre-COVID rates. Call me today, and together we can process self-limiting beliefs and feelings underlying depression, to help restore your energy and motivation.
