My Approach to Helping

I use different approaches to help each client with their individual difficulty. Therapy is a very personal experience and can sometimes be a little scary and/or overwhelming. I facilitate a judgement free and safe environment where I encourage clients to express their frustrations as well as help them gain knowledge and insight to inspire healthy beliefs and attitudes towards the difficult situations life throws their way. I've also been known to incorporate a little humor throughout the healing process. "Sometimes the smallest step in the right direction ends up being the biggest step of your life."- unknown

My Personal Beliefs and Interests

My clinical education and training begain in 2003. I have a B.S in Speech Language Pathology and an M.A in Counseling with an emphasis in clinical mental health. I'm a registered associate through the state of Oregon and I'm a certified Clinical Trauma professional. I'm also a member of the American Counseling Association.

  • Historical Trauma External link

    Having experienced several traumatic events throughout my life and having watched family and friends experience trauma, I have learned what trauma can do to our minds and bodies. I have worked with many adolescents and adults who have experienced trauma and I have completed clinical trauma certification programs.

  • Domestic Abuse External link

    Having left an abusive marriage, I understand the pain that domestic abuse can cause. Domestic abuse can be physically & psychologically damaging as well as traumatizing.

  • Divorce External link

    Being a divorced individual, I understand the pain and the loss a divorce causes. It's a difficult experience to process as you're grieving the loss of a marriage while trying to re gain a sense of self and find a new direction in life.

  • Suicidal Ideation External link

    I have had family and friends who have experienced suicidal ideation and self harm. This has inspired me to help others. I have worked with several adults and teenagers who have experienced suicidal ideation and have found CBT and DBT to be effective types of treatment.

  • Anxiety External link

    I have experienced anxiety myself over the years and I have worked with numerous teenagers and adults who have struggled with different kinds of anxiety. I help clients identify the cause(s) of the anxiety and use different approaches when working with them to form a treatment plan. I now offer an anxiety and depression group for extra support weekly.
