My Approach

My focus is on helping clients move toward a place of clarity, strength, and fulfilling engagement with life. Counseling can be a tool to do so, as a confidential, safe, and compassionate place to reflect. My approach is based in an integration of current research on the brain/neurobiology, compassionate communication, integrative cognitive behavioral therapy, body-oriented approaches, and depth psychology. I view well-being from a whole health perspective, with attention to mind, body, and spirit. Based on the needs of the client, counseling can include talk therapy, mindfulness, skill development, career exploration, and creative arts techniques. As a Rehabilitation Counselor, I also offer counseling support for adjustment to chronic illness & disability.

My Background

I have an M.S. in Clinical Mental Health and Clinical Rehabilitation Counseling from Portland State University. During graduate school, I completed advanced training in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy with the Beck Institute and a year-long certification in Yoga and Mindfulness with Yoga Calm. I specialized in working with individuals with vision loss, providing vocational rehabilitation services and mental health counseling to transition-age youth and adults. I have additional continuing education and/or training in Interpersonal Neurobiology, Nonviolent (Compassionate) Communication, Jungian theory, and Hatha/Restorative Yoga. With a background in the arts and outdoors, I also have a strong respect for the role of creativity and nature in well-being.
