My Ideal Client

You are curious about what may be influencing your feelings/moods and to what extent your early experiences may be an underlying factor in your contentment and mental health. You want to understand yourself and others better and explore past traumas and develop better self care routines.

My Background and Approach

I offer experience and expertise dealing with recovery from effects of child abuse, family violence, substance abuse, divorce and other life cycle trauma. I use an eclectic therapuetic style including experiential and cognitive means. Developing your personal genogram is a powerful tool to guide you on your journey toward wellness. Personal growth and recovery involves a willingness to challenge yourself to try something different. Everyone deserves to feel more comfortable "in their own skin." My early clinical experience involved working with women in recovery. I value the additional support 12-Step and other support groups can offer. More recently I have focused on serving families with preschool aged children. Play therapy and other client centered approaches form the basis of my work with clients. Starting therapy/counseling can feel uncomfortable, maybe even scary. We'll work at a comfortable pace for you to best meet your goals.

My Personal Beliefs and Interests

I became a therapist because of therapeutic experiences I had while learning about the family disease of alcoholism and codependency. My early years in clinical practice were at a women's center in Southern California therapeutically supporting women in recovery from substance abuse and/or codependency. The past 20 some years have been spent providing mental health services in Head Start and Early Head Start programs. While serving Head Start and Early Head Start communities I was fortunate to be trained in attachment based parenting, play therapy, and trauma informed care. I have often been able to work in private-practice settings during this time as well. Most recently I was endorsed through Oregon Infant & Early Childhood Mental Health Association as an Infant/Family Specialist. More personal interests are: songwriting, poetry, art, nature, Buddhism - enjoying time with friends, family and my adorable Australian-poodle mix dog.
