My Approach to Helping

During these uncertain times the vitality of our relationships are more important than ever. The added stress of isolation, anxieties, and fears of the unknown are only compounding the struggles in our relationships with our partners. You may be feeling the pressure on what you have been aware of as unresolved issues or you may just be struggling in the moment to adjust to a new reality. I have found that with some focused attention on their relationship couples can actually thrive during this time! Every struggle contains a kernel of hope and the possibility for renewed connection and intimacy. Together we can identify and address what needs to be strengthened and nurtured between the two of you and what blocks are keeping you from having the relationship you desire. Now is a great time to pause and shift some energy into improving your relationship.

My Personal Beliefs and Interests

After receiving a bachelor’s degree in Psychology I worked for many years in the field of sexual assault and domestic violence as a counselor and advocate. I then earned my master’s degree in Clinical Psychology from Antioch University Los Angeles. I enjoyed three years of clinical training at Valley Community Healthcare (now Valley Community Counseling Center), a psychoanalytic psychotherapy clinic in N. Hollywood, CA. Having lived in many different places on each coast, I am thrilled to call Portland home and look forward to hearing from you so that we can collaborate together towards reaching your goals. As a Marriage and Family Therapist Associate I am supervised by Dr. James Soliday, LMFT.

Techniques I Use

Specialties

  • Couples Counseling External link

Healthy couples are my passion! Couples work is a commitment to go deeper in your relationship and yourself. We will explore the ways you each connect and the barriers that you encounter when connection doesn't go well. It is often the differences couples have that create problems so we will tackle the issue of how to me a "me" in a "we". I'll throw in some of the latest research in neuroscience so that you will learn to calm and soothe and your relationship will have the space to flourish.

  • Psychodynamic  External link

My education and training is in Psychodynamic theory and clinical practice. This type of therapy helps us delve deeper into the motivations and unconscious conflicts underlying why we do what we do.

  • Emotionally Focused External link

I am an EFT-informed couples therapist. This means that I prioritize your emotional way of relating to one another. This helps us get to deeper issues beyond what is on the surface level. We will unlock stalemates, break negative communication cycles and improve bonding, communication and intimacy.

Issues I Treat

Specialties

  • Relationship / Marriage Issues External link

I am passionate about healthy relationships! I have the education, training, and experience to help you and your partner work toward a more satisfying relationship. Throughout the therapy experience, you and your partner can move from distance to bonding, isolation to intimacy, and confused communication to understanding.

  • Personal Growth External link

Do you want to live with more authenticity? More passion? More creativity? Maybe you don’t have a single defining “issue” but are interested in learning more about yourself and your role in the world. Your motivation is commendable and together we can work to expand your insight, strengthen your resiliency, and reach your goals.

  • Anxiety External link

Anxiety is something that affects us all. You may have anxiety about a specific situation (a problem at work, social anxiety) or it may be more generalized and your anxiety involves deeper existential questions. Together we can explore the causes and effects of these intense emotions.

  • Depression External link

Whether your experience of depression is situational or rooted in something much deeper there is hope. I use my analytic approach to therapy to help you gain insight and resolve any underlying issues that may be contributing to your depressed mood. With thoughtfulness and sensitivity we can examine the meaning of depression in your life and find your spark again.
