My Ideal Client

I've worked with adults from diverse backgrounds in inpatient/outpatient hospitals, community mental health clinics, and college counseling centers. I specialize in insight-oriented psychotherapy to enable deeper understanding of how you experience yourself and others. However, flexibility and collaboration are central to my approach for those desiring brief consultations for specific situations. I work well with clients who desire to understand their symptoms for long-term, sustainable change.

My Approach to Helping

Prior to becoming a psychologist, I served as a public interest attorney in Michigan and Oregon. As a psychologist, I continue to work from an anti-oppressive/social justice framework, drawing from multicultural and relational psychoanalytic theories. I approach therapy as a collaboration, working towards understanding the meaning behind manifest symptoms by exploring one’s distinctive history, upbringing, sociopolitical context, and life events as it relates to the present. I am especially interested in shifting patterns of psychological trauma to embolden one’s sense of agency and increase cognitive and emotional flexibility for a more compassionate and creative sense of being with self and others.

My Personal Beliefs and Interests

I draw from relational psychoanalytic, attachment, and social justice-based principles, which value understanding how our internal and external worlds interact. I pay attention to the contextual thread comprising our present selves including our early experiences and the cultural, sociopolitical milieu we inhabit.
