My Approach

My approach is part clinical counseling, psychodynamic and existential. I am trained to integrate spiritual issues into mental health treatment, but I am careful to respect client preferences concerning spiritual issues. I consider myself a pastoral counselor with a mental health clinical orientation who desires to serve people in the spirit of compassion. I am a skilled, active listener, I am intuitive and refer often to my broad life's experiences to highly individualize therapeutic treatment. I understand a person's need for significance and purpose in life. I strive to help clients discover purpose for their lives by presenting myself as a mirror to the client where they can hear and experience their own thoughts and feelings.

My Background

I earned an M.S. at Loyola University (Baltimore) in 2009. My Master's Degree was in Pastoral Counseling where I learned how to integrate pastoral issues into clinical counseling. I specifically chose this degree program because I believe that people long for deep meaning in their lives, that "something" that they find beyond themselves. Power for living is both driven by internal strength and external resources. Many people believe in a higher power that guides their lives and is intertwined with who they are. I specialize in this kind of client. However, I am also skilled in discussing and processing whatever issues a client wants to discuss in therapy. I have experience working with chronic mental illness, children and adolescents, couples counseling, family counseling, addictions and people with anxiety and depressive disorders.
