My Ideal Client

I want to be apart of your journey whether that is working on your professional skills in supervision or if you are wanting counseling. I enjoy working with people with many different backgrounds. I enjoy getting to know my clients and learning what their goals are. Call me to see if you think we would be a good fit!

My Approach to Helping

I am eclectic in my approach with a strong reliance on Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Attachment Theory, and Motivational Interviewing. I believe counseling is a process to provide insight and understanding in order to improve your life. I also recognize that you live within various systems (family, work, culture) that impact your life in different ways, and that counseling must include these components in the process. I enjoy using play therapy, sand tray, or art therapy, in the process when working with children or adolescents if this is something they are interested in.

My Personal Beliefs and Interests

I graduated from Portland State University with my Bachelors degree in Psychology. I hold a Master of Arts degree in Counseling from Multnomah University. Major course work included: human development, understanding psychopathology, human relations, play therapy, substance abuse, and adolescent psychology. Outside of my graduate program, I have completed many trauma informed trainings including trauma training through International Association of Trauma Professionals to become a CCTP. I am trained in EMDR and have continued taking trauma classes to further my knowledge around trauma. I am also a certified drug and alcohol counselor III

Techniques I Use

Specialties

  • Expressive Art Therapy External link

Many times clients are able to expressive themselves more when able to do it in a different way other than words. I like to work with my client to see what works for them and help them to better express themselves.

  • Play Therapy  External link

I enjoy doing play therapy with clients whether that is using sand tray, playing music, or doing art therapy. I try to incorporate whatever interests or talents my clients has into the counseling session. I have also had clients bring in their animals from home to play with while we have sessions.

  • Cognitive Behavioral (CBT) External link

I am eclectic in my approach with a strong reliance on Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. I believe counseling is a process to provide insight and understanding in order to improve your life.

Issues I Treat

Specialties

  • Abuse External link

Whether you have experienced emotional, sexual or physical abuse. Abuse will impact your life in many different ways. Lets work together on the symptoms you are experiencing in order to make you have a healthier life.

  • Child or Adolescent Issues External link

For three years I worked in a secure dual diagnoses facility with clients ages 12-18 helping them with all kinds of different struggles, whether it was PTSD, suicidal thoughts, anxiety and/or addiction. Teenagers go through a lot and usually don't have many people they can actually trust to go and talk to. Schedule an appointment today to see if I would be a good fit for your son or daughter.

  • PTSD External link

PTSD is something that I am very interested in. I think that it is amazing how resilient so much of us are and we don't even realize. PTSD is not fun to live with if you don't have it managed. Lets work together to figure out what symptoms you are still experiencing and how we can get these to decrease in your life to make your life more enjoyable.

  • Anxiety External link

Anxiety is a common issue but it can get so bad it becomes demobilizing. Let me come a long side of you and help you through this. Not every technique is going to work for you but I would love to help you find out what works best for your anxiety.

  • Depression External link

Depression is a common problem but that doesn't mean it isn't going to get better. Let talk about what you have already tried to work on your depression and brainstorm new ideas together to decide how we can help your depression and better your life. Depression is not fun to live with and I want to come along side of you and help make things better.
