My Approach to Helping

After years of working with teenagers and their families, I honor the unique struggles that young adults experience in life. Being a teenager is hard, and I respect that young people are unique and complex individuals who deserve compassion and honesty in their process of learning to navigate life. In my practice, I strive to create a comfortable, positive space where you can become a person who feels strong and proud of who you are. I most often use a solution-focused and client-centered approach. I believe my clients are the experts of their own lives and I am here to provide support, guidance and perspective. My therapeutic process is to help you move through your challenges by using your strengths. To do this, we have to work collaboratively. I enjoy helping people learn new ways to look at themselves and their experiences.

My Personal Beliefs and Interests

Originally from the Midwest, I moved to Portland in 2007. I have been working with teenagers and families for 13 years as a mental health counselor where I support students in finding success to graduate from high school and to navigate this world. I also work closely with families to provide additional support on how to best assist their teenagers with this process. I received my Master's degree through the University of Kansas and completed my hours towards my LCSW license in Portland. I have been trained in using Mindfulness, Restorative Justice, Emotional Security, ACT and Eye Movement & Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR) to assist with processing trauma. I have spent time and continue to do work to develop my own racial consciousness and my awareness of how racial dynamics and white supremacy affect our lives as individuals and within our communities. I know this is an ongoing experience and the work I do does not end.
