My Background and Approach

My style is very client focused. I believe that the tools that helped us survive in childhood may be hindering our lives today. The messages we receive growing up can become internalized. People are not broken, but made to feel so by those that should be supporting us. Healing past trauma, creating a life worth living, and fostering self compassion is my philosophy. I offer evening hours (3pm - 9pm) because I know it can be hard to schedule life when everything seems to be 9-5. Clients have described me as comforting, insightful, directive but in a caring way, willing to work with them through core traumas, and smart (loving to read helps).

My Personal Beliefs and Interests

I have extensive experience when it comes to healing trauma. In addition to over 300 hours as a counselor for various crisis lines, I have led groups and provided individual counseling at the Domestic Violence Resource Center. I incorporate mindfulness, ACT, DBT, Schema Therapy, EMDR, and Narrative Therapy. I currently provide individual counseling and the following groups: Domestic Violence Support Group LGBTQ Interpersonal Trauma Interpersonal Trauma Online Group (starting soon)

Techniques I Use

  • Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) External link

You know that thing you don't want to do or think about? Avoiding it may work in the short term, but it only makes things worse. ACT helps to remove those barriers, identify the kind of life you want, and person you want to be. I have attended intensive workshops in ACT, but also am drawn to the fact that it does not pathologize people.

  • EMDR External link

I have completed an intensive 50 hour EMDRIA approved basic training in Attachment Focused EMDR with the Personal Transformation Institute. I have also clinical experience practicing EMDR with clients.

  • Narrative  External link

The story we tell ourselves impact how we see ourselves, but it is often others who are not supportive that dictate how that story should be. Narrative therapy is about looking at the past through a more compassionate lens or envisioning a future that is worth living for. An example can be as simple as the words 'victim' and 'survivor'. I combine my experience as a clinician with being an author.

Issues I Treat

  • Suicidal Ideation External link

I bring over 300 hours volunteering on crisis lines across the United States.
