Elise Himes

Licensed Professional Counselor Intern

The journey from merely a life of surviving to thriving can be daunting, but possible. As a survivor myself, I can understand even considering counseling takes courage and perseverance. Together, we can help you find your voice, capitalize on your inner strengths, and reclaim your life’s story.

My Approach

My style is very client focused. I believe that the tools that helped us survive in childhood may be hindering our lives today. The messages we receive growing up can become internalized. People are not broken, but made to feel so by those that should be supporting us. Healing past trauma, creating a life worth living, and fostering self compassion is my philosophy. I offer evening hours (3pm - 9pm) because I know it can be hard to schedule life when everything seems to be 9-5. Clients have described me as comforting, insightful, directive but in a caring way, willing to work with them through core traumas, and smart (loving to read helps).

My Background

I have extensive experience when it comes to healing trauma. In addition to over 300 hours as a counselor for various crisis lines, I have led groups and provided individual counseling at the Domestic Violence Resource Center. I incorporate mindfulness, ACT, DBT, Schema Therapy, EMDR, and Narrative Therapy. I currently provide individual counseling and the following groups: Domestic Violence Support Group LGBTQ Interpersonal Trauma Interpersonal Trauma Online Group (starting soon)
