My Ideal Client

My primary specialties are working with the reproductive lifespan (trying to conceive, deciding whether to have children, pregnancy loss, pregnancy, transition to parenthood), helping couples to change negative patterns of relating into effective communication and thriving connection, and facilitating healing from anxiety and trauma.

My Approach to Helping

My approach is a combination of structured skills learning with body awareness and trauma resolution protocols. I talk a lot about how your life is not working because of the systems we live in, but also what you can actually do to feel better. In addition to talking about your life, I will invite you to use mindful awareness to track your physical and internal experience. The body's information becomes a guide for healing. Couples are guided to track and shift their cycle of conflict, identify unhealed childhood wounds at play in the relationship, and shift into patterns and behaviors that support the relationship they desire. Reproductive lifespan work includes holding space for important questions regarding family planning, working with grief and loss, logistical planning for supportive transitions, and improving connection and coping.

My Personal Beliefs and Interests

I hold a masters degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from Lewis and Clark in Portland, Oregon. My work is rooted in the knowledge that our place in our families, culture, and society deeply shapes and informs the challenges we face and inner strength we acquire. Navigating systems of oppression, inherited trauma, and poor relationship models can cause deep suffering, but there is always room to rise, reclaim your sovereignty and move towards a life you desire. Challenges I work with include: anxiety, communication difficulties, intergenerational trauma, self-esteem, codependency, creating boundaries, family relationships, sex and sexuality, perinatal mental health and new parenthood, attachment and bonding, and grief and loss.

Techniques I Use

Specialties

  • EMDR External link

We each have survival strategies created in childhood to protect ourselves from experiencing more pain. This can manifest in adulthood as avoidance in relationships, chronic anxiety, and a variety of other challenging patterns. EMDR allows for real, effective, and permanent changes in the brain and body that support long term healing from trauma and stuck patterns.

  • Couples Counseling External link

I am trained as a marriage and family therapist, which means I am well versed in the way people create and solve problems together. If you and your partner are struggling, we will be able to explore the issues at hand, determine stuck patterns that keep you from having the relationship you want, and make connections between your past, present, and desired relationships.

  • Somatic Therapy (Body Centered) External link

We live in our bodies and every experience we have is felt, held, and released through our bodies. If you work with me, you will learn to develop or build upon body awareness that will allow deeper release of trauma, greater self-awareness, and a more sophisticated awareness and management of your emotions.

Issues I Treat

Specialties

  • Postpartum External link

Postpartum is a time when most birthing people realize the dominant culture is not set up to support thriving lifeways. Therapy can help to identify patterns of functioning that need to be released, improve communication and connection to others, tend to wounds from our own childhoods, and learn to stand in our own strength and authenticity. Being empowered with education about the physical, emotional, and spiritual changes that arise during this life stage is crucial for thriving postpartum.

  • Women's Issues External link

I specialize in helping women through life transitions. Whether a breakup, relocation, loss, new motherhood, relationship change with a parent, we can explore the challenges at hand in a way that values your strengths and intuition, while exploring toxic patterns that may be holding you back from creating the life you desire. One of my favorite tools for this is EMDR, which can help the brain and body make efficient changes towards your life goals.

  • Relationship / Marriage Issues External link

Are you wondering if the relationship you are in will work out? Do you feel there are issues that you secretly wonder about, but you just don't know how to tell your partner? Has it been a while since your sex life has resembled anything you want it to? I can help you and your partner identify stuck patterns of functioning and communication, explore and heal past wounds and create positive change.

  • Infertility External link

Fertility challenges are one of the hardest things to go through. Feeling lost, afraid and disoriented? Get help to process grief and loss, cut through the fog of decision fatigue and differing opinions, learn about options for family planning and gain support as you navigate your own personal path. Central to the care I provide is connecting you to additional resources and providers that can help support you in your family goals.

  • Loss or Grief External link

Have you recently gone through a breakup that has left you confused and sad? Lost a loved one or pregnancy unexpectedly? If you are struggling with the weight of your grief, I can help. Together, we can identify strategies to help you get through acute and chronic grief and provide a safe space to process complex feelings that come with loss.
