My Ideal Client

I offer supportive, compassionate counseling for individual adults and teenagers which places an intentional emphasis on creating a relationship in which you feel seen, affirmed, and empowered. I help people find greater peace and acceptance in the face of chronic stress, trauma, grief, depression, anxiety, and systemic oppression. I am passionate about supporting LGBTQIA2S+, BIPOC, disabled folks, and other marginalized groups historically disenfranchised by counseling and psychiatry.

My Approach to Helping

I am rooted in a person-centered, humanistic perspective. This embodies the idea that we all have the capacity for healing and growth. I also believe who we are and where we come from are both highly influenced by our relationships. These relationships help create and influence how we relate with ourselves, each other, and the world around us. It’s important to me the relationship that may grow between us be one where we can explore parts of yourself you may not have always felt safe or comfortable sharing with others. I honor our unique cultures, stories, and the wisdom of our intersecting identities and personal histories. That means maintaining a deep respect and curiosity for how your experiences have shaped your life and your relationships up to this present moment. With your consent and collaboration, together we’ll use a strengths-based, liberatory approach to identify, explore, and uplift the sources of power, resilience, and connection that shape our lives.

My Personal Beliefs and Interests

Growing up as a queer and gender non-conforming (GNC) individual in rural Wisconsin introduced me to the ways power, oppression, and privilege shape our lives and the opportunities available to us and those we love. Coming of age in the shadow of the AIDS crisis and of the ongoing struggle for Queer and Trans equality in a highly conservative suburb of Milwaukee, exploring the way queer and trans people and culture have built resilience and thrived in the face of ongoing adversity started as a life-line. Eventually it transformed into a life-long passion for finding new ways to support members of my larger LGBTQIA2S+ community. When I’m not meeting with clients, I love exploring all that Oregon and the Pacific Northwest has to offer! I spend as much time as possible hiking, enjoying Portland’s amazing pizza scene, playing board games with my chosen family, reading fantasy novels, cooking big meals, and greeting as many dogs as possible on trips to the park!

Issues I Treat

Specialties

  • LGBTQ Issues External link

LGBTQIA2S+ folks face a unique set of current and historical circumstances that can benefit from specialized support. I believe in moving beyond just affirming care and using a strengths-based, liberatory approach to identify, explore, and uplift the sources of power, resilience, and connection, both historically and presently, that shape our lives.

  • ADHD External link

The spectrum of neurodiversity is broad and beautiful, but it can be challenging to move through a world designed by and for neurotypical people. You may notice times where stuff doesn't click and where you don’t feel comfortable being your full self. Therapy can help identify unique strengths in neurodiverse experiences, honor personal needs, as well as develop affirming neurodiverse ways of maintaining meaningful relationship and creating change
