My Approach to Helping

Therapy is not a one-size-fits-all! There are many layers to healing and I take the time to find out what therapeutic approach and pace would work best with each person. I believes in mind, body, and soul, that all these individual parts must be strengthened individually but also work as one unit to feel balanced. As a counselor, I view my role as providing a safe, thoughtful and nurturing experience that offers the space to help guide individuals on their journey to heal and discover whatever it is they are searching for. I work from a collective group of theories which include cognitive behavioral theory, motivational interviewing, client centered therapy, acceptance and commitment theory, spirituality and somatic theory that focuses on mind and body.

My Personal Beliefs and Interests

I am a Licensed Professional Counseling Intern registered with the State of Oregon under the supervision of Terri Weber-Harris, MA, LPC, CADC II. I earned my masters in professional mental health counseling with a specialization in addictions from Lewis & Clark College and my bachelors in Human Studies from Marylhurst University. I am also a Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor I with MHACBO in Oregon. As a therapist, I have worked for over 5 years with individuals that have struggled with the disease of addiction and their family members. I have experience working in the Department of Corrections, Detox Facilities and Residential Facilities. I have started working with people who want to heal their past and gain understanding of where their values and behaviors started from. I believe in generational trauma and that people learn how to live their life by the experiences they had throughout their childhood and how difficult it can be to challenge those old beliefs and developed roles.

Issues I Treat

Specialties

  • Personal Growth External link

I believe that personal growth comes from challenging believes, gaining insight into ourselves and stepping into the suffering that holds us back. I have worked hard on my own personal growth and continue to push myself to life a full life. Those experiences help me to help others to do the same.

  • Family Conflict External link

I have studied and have an understanding of family systems. I believe at a young age we develop values and behaviors that stay with us throughout our life. I specialize in ACA work and use it as a tool to help others heal their past and step out of their roles that were developed as a child.

  • Drug Dependence / Abuse / Addiction External link

When I started going back to school my focus was on Alcoholism and Chemical Dependency. I am a Ceritified Alcohol and Drug Counselor. I believe in dual diagnosis and that both need to be addressed to gain recovery. I have been working in the Addictions field for over 5 years and I have a solid understanding in how addiction needs to be treated.

  • Codependency External link

I have studied and have an understanding of family systems which contributes to codependent behaviors. I believe at a young age we develop values and behaviors that stay with us throughout our life. I specialize in ACA work which is closely related to co-dependency. Co-dependency is about control and acceptance and it's important to learn how to recognize how these behaviors transfer to others.
