My Ideal Client

My clients tell me that I listen to them, I share good ideas, and I don't express judgment. What a joy to know that is how I am perceived. I enjoy working with tweens, teens, and adults and am especially excited when the issues we are working on include relationship challenges, transitions, parenting, and/or adoption. My office is a quiet space in a small town but I am equally at home on telehealth.

My Approach to Helping

An initial intake session helps us develop an individual treatment plan together. Additional sessions will be recommended based on diagnoses and the treatment plan. My approach to therapy is eclectic and varies based on client needs. My treatment is Solutions-Focused and draws on ideas from Family Systems Theory, Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, and an Ecosystems Perspective. Most therapy sessions are one hour in length and may include the client and/or the family. In office and Telehealth sessions are offered, though I am currently not accepting new clients. I accept many insurance plans; please call to learn more.

My Personal Beliefs and Interests

I received my Master's Degree in Social Work from Syracuse University and I am licensed in both Oregon and Washington. I am especially passionate about tweens, teens, and young adults and I have over 20 years of experience working in the following areas: school counseling, LGBTQA+ support, adoption and foster care challenges, first responder support, social skills curriculum writing, and family medical and school advocacy. In addition, I served in the US Army Reserve for 8 years. My husband and I share a home with our two daughters and one dog. I enjoy spending time in the outdoors, making music, and reading.

Techniques I Use

  • Solution Focused Brief Therapy External link

As a clinical social worker, my training was mostly focused in this type of therapy.

  • Family Systems External link

This was also a focus in my training as a social worker; understanding the family is crucial to understanding the individual.

Issues I Treat

  • Adoption Issues External link

As an adoptive parent myself, I have many years of experience and training in adoption and foster care challenges.

  • Parenting External link

Most of the last 6 years of my life have focused on supporting parents and I have quite a bit of training in this area.

  • Child or Adolescent Issues External link

Working with teens and tweens is my passion, and comprises much of my experience. I spent over 14 years working in schools and I believe that experience helps me have a greater understanding of tween and teen experiences.

  • Loss or Grief External link

Helping others through bereavement is also something that I am passionate about. I believe each person needs to be heard in their time of grief and loss.

  • PTSD External link

Much of my training in the last decade has focused on navigating trauma.
