I view counseling as a joint partnership between a counselor and client and I listen carefully to the concerns of my clients. I am passionate about creating a safe environment for you to explore and heal from pasts pain, while also discovering purpose and meaning in your life. I use an integrated approach to counseling, which means that I am willing to apply creativity and various types of interventions that may benefit you. I love to work with clients from all orientations and walks of life. I have a background in working with individuals and groups who have spiritual concerns, however, out of care and respect for my clients, I will never impose my personal beliefs or opinions onto clients. I immigrated to the US two decades ago, so I can relate to the difficulties many people face in adapting to a new country, language, and culture

I am trained to meet the unique needs of clients who are survivors of domestic and intimate partner violence. I also have many years of experience helping clients with challenging relationships, addiction, food struggles, trauma, anxiety, depression, bipolar., spiritual issues, and cultural challenges. I am a National Certified Counselor. I obtained an M.A. in Counseling at Western Seminary in Portland Oregon. I also hold a Bachelors in Law from UNISA (University of South Africa), and I am a published author and public speaker. I am also a registered intern with the State of Oregon and work under the supervision of a licensed psychologist.

Techniques I Use

Specialties

  • EMDR External link

EMDR stands for Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing Therapy. I am trained in this therapy and have been using it with great success in people with trauma, anxiety, depression, flashbacks, phobias, DV, grief and loss, panic attacks, addiction and eating disorders. EMDR has been used for decades and produces results in a much shorter time than other therapies.

Issues I Treat

Specialties

  • Relationship / Marriage Issues External link

I love creating a safe space for couples to talk through difficult issues and restore or improve their love relationships. I have been married for 26 years and raised 4 children, so I know all too well that life can get very difficult and overwhelming at times.

  • Eating Disorder External link

I have 15 years of experience working with individuals and groups who struggle with eating disorders. I have had particular success working with clients who deal with binge eating disorder or food addiction.

  • PTSD External link

I work with many clients who experienced trauma in childhood or at a different time in their lives. My clients include First Responders, Veterans, Victims of Domestic Violence and Abuse, and Survivors of childhood abuse. I have been trained in EMDR and have used this therapy successfully with many of my clients. I am also trained to work specifically with first responders.

  • Anxiety External link

I have worked with many clients who struggle with anxiety and have successfully treated them by using a combination of CBT and EMDR. Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is especially beneficial as it pertains to clients who have had trauma in their past that is related to their current anxiety.

  • Depression External link

I have worked with many clients who struggle with depression and I have successfully treated them by using a combination of CBT and EMDR. Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is especially beneficial when clients also had trauma in their past that may be related to their current struggle with depression.
