My Approach to Helping

I work in partnership with people to facilitate positive change. My approach emphasizes acceptance, finding balance, exploring values, and developing new skills to gain freedom from limiting patterns. Each person I work with is unique and therapy is specially tailored to meet your individual needs and concerns. I believe people have a great capacity to grow and heal and make their lives satisfying and fulfilling.

My Personal Beliefs and Interests

I have worked in a variety of different fields in my early work life, and was drawn to counseling because of the profound and lasting positive changes that the counseling process can offer to people. I received my master’s degree in Counseling Psychology from Lewis and Clark College, and have bachelor of science degrees in Chemistry and Computer Science. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor in Oregon. I have experience and training using Emotionally Focused Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and EMDR Therapy. I am a certified EMDR provider and am also a Certified Gambling Addiction Therapist in Oregon. I work from a resilience/trauma informed perspective bringing mindfulness, interpersonal neurobiology, and neuroscience into my practice. I use an integrated approach to therapy, tailored to meet the unique needs of every client. I enjoy working with clients from many different backgrounds and have worked in managed care, community mental health, and private practice.

    Couples counseling can help rebuild and rekindle relationships so partners can connect and support one another. I work from an Emotionally Focused Couple Therapy perspective, helping partners step away from old patterns and enabling partners to create new ways of relating to each other so they can find can find comfort, love, support and romance in their relationship.

    I am a certified gambling addiction therapist, CGACII, and have worked extensively with clients addicted to gambling.

    I am an EMDRIA certified EMDR therapist with specialized training in working with trauma and PTSD.

  • Panic External link

    Panic feels scary and overwhelming, but it can often be addressed with skills so you can get some quick relief. I help clients learn tools to help regulate their stress response, and also address underlying automatic responses that keep panic going. Counseling for panic can help you rebuild trust in yourself and help you find joy again in engaging in your life.

  • Anxiety External link

    Anxiety often creeps up on us and the effects of anxiety can be dramatic and devastating. We withdraw and limit our experiences with the hope of protecting ourselves and our lives become centered on avoiding exposure to anxiety. I work with clients to help them develop the skills to manage their anxiety and to feel confident in their ability to engage in new experiences in their lives.

  • Depression External link

    Sometimes feelings of sadness and low moods can become overwhelming and make our lives feel hopeless and meaningless. Depression can include feeling exhausted, losing interest in activities, and feelings of wanting to withdraw from life. I work with clients to develop skills to manage low moods as well as exploring underlying emotional and cognitive patterns that can maintain depressive symptoms.
