My Approach

I see you as the expert on you, and my role as an expert in healing. I want our relationship to feel collaborative with your goals for therapy keeping the focus. Part of a therapist's job is to see things about you that you don't see and guide you to a greater awareness with empathy and steadiness. Three lenses inform my perspective of how we are hurt and how we heal: attachment theory, neuroscience, and social justice. Attachment theory explains how our behaviors are shaped by our early relationship with our caregivers and play out in our current relationships. Each attachment style comes with a path for healing. Neuroscience is quickly becoming the basis of psychology. I find that clients love learning about how the brain works and this too guides how to move forward. An inter-sectional social justice perspective integrates our personal truth with that of the larger world. This helps pinpoint the sources of our pain and empowerment.

My Background

I have a bachelors of social work and a masters in art therapy counseling. I have done social justice work all my life and bring this to my therapeutic perspective. In the last 5 years I have been working hard to become more aware of how white supremacy works in the world and through me as a white woman so I can be more authentic and present to how it hurts us all and hold space for healing. Working as a therapist for the last 10 years has allowed me to witness people's resiliency, creativity, and vulnerability. In 2018 I completed EMDR basic training through the Parnell Institute and work with "Big T" traumas, which include serious injury, abuse, neglect, or life threatening situations. I specialize in attachment-focused EMDR which helps heal relationship-based trauma and complex trauma. Art therapy offers unique way to express yourself and is a tool of healing.
