My Approach to Helping

Notice that feeling of tension and stress while in an argument. That feeling of the relationship spiraling beyond your control to a familiar place that you both go. I begin our work right there. In our session, we work with slowing that process down and making more choices available to us than just our typical stress response. My approach helps people recognize the moment when you and/or your partner step off the path of secure relationship functioning. Through making small adjustment I can help you to see and be seen by your relationship in a much deeper and nourishing way.

My Personal Beliefs and Interests

I believe that all relationships are hard and take work. Like most things, there is an intuitive way to go about it and yet often times that intuitive approach gets us only part way there. We only know what we saw while growing up and often times that can be an incomplete picture. I can help one learn the difference between sticking to what works and what habits we need to abandon altogether for the sake of our relationships. Evidence has been shown that our brains are adaptable to change and can be reprogrammed. No matter what our childhood relationships were like and no matter what our internal critic tells us about ourselves, I believe that I can help to make new habits and choices that promote better communication and intimacy.

Techniques I Use

  • Somatic Therapy (Body Centered) External link

An approach that looks at the connection of mind and body through the use of mind-body exercises and other physical techniques to reduce stress that is negatively affecting your physical and emotional well-being.

  • Mindfulness-based External link

A type of psychotherapy that uses the practice of present moment awareness of your thoughts, feelings, and physical sensations in a nonjudgmental way to promote overall well-being.

  • Gestalt External link

An existential/experiential form of therapy which emphasizes personal responsibility, and focuses upon the individual's experience in the present moment, the therapist–client relationship, the environmental and social contexts of a person's life, and the self-regulating adjustments people make as a result of their overall situation.

Issues I Treat

  • Sexual Problems External link

Supporting the discomfort of sexual challenges through navigating them in a nonjudgmental and sex positive environment. Thus increasing the ability to communicate about them and creatively resolve sexual issues.

  • Self-Esteem External link

Working with mindfulness to locate negative internal dialogue and cultivating self acceptance to increase self-esteem.

  • Relationship / Marriage Issues External link

Providing a systematic look at all aspects of our intimate relationship to find we partners are missing each other and getting stuck in conflict.

  • PTSD External link

Supporting clients in making new meaning from previous traumatic stressors and learning coping skills for managing intrusive thoughts and feelings.

  • Anxiety External link

Anxiety is an issue of excessive worry about the future. That being said, i help clients with changing their internal narrative from worry to acceptance.
