My Ideal Client

We all sometimes find ourselves feeling alone in painful experiences, stuck in old patterns of coping, unable to see a path forward. Whether you are faced with complex grief or loss, anxiety, depression, or the impacts of trauma - I can help you heal the wounded places inside to realize your potential for transformation. My practice is trauma- and social-justice informed. Clients from diverse backgrounds share that they appreciate the warmth, humor, & authenticity I bring to our work together.

My Background

My interest in complex trauma and passion for social justice issues grew, in great part, from my Basque heritage. In my early 20's, while living in the Basque Country, I witnessed the legacy of historical and state-sponsored violence. At the time, it seemed an endless cycle of pain & suffering. Training as a therapist & more than twenty years in practice have since taught me that all human beings possess an innate capacity for healing and, when we tend to our internal wounds & the defenses around them, we bring healing to the world. Over the course of my career, I have been a fierce advocate for mental health parity within large healthcare organizations. All trauma survivors in need of mental health services deserve access to evidence-based trauma-focused therapies. Like-minded colleagues and I developed a comprehensive template for realizing this vision - the Complex Trauma Care Pathway (CTCP) - and the Permanente Journal published an article summarizing our findings.

Why I am a Good Fit for You

Drawing from my training and experience in a range of therapeutic modalities (mindfulness & self-compassion practices, Grief Recovery Method, DBT, AEDP, and Internal Family Systems), we will work together to tailor our approach to your needs & preferences. The most important part of our work together is our relationship. I am deeply committed to creating an environment in which you feel safe and can experience being truly seen, respected, and valued. If this sounds like it might be a good fit, please call for a fifteen-minute phone introduction, free of charge. I look forward to connecting with you!
