My Approach to Helping

I view people in a holistic manner, taking into account their physical, psychological, social and spiritual needs; tailoring my approach to the needs of each individual I meet with. We work together to create a plan in how specifically you can reach the goals you desire. This can happen by learning new skills, gaining insights into how certain behaviors got started, looking at family background patterns, increasing resources in your life, and discovering strengths and tools you are already using! Currently, I am only offering video or phone appointments.

My Personal Beliefs and Interests

I received my Masters in Counseling from George Fox University in 2010. After working in the community mental health setting, I have attained both my Oregon and Washington counseling license. I have received a two year training in Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, 2 level training in Gottman method for couple's counseling, and have experience working with diverse populations in a variety of mental health settings. The issues I address include depression, anxiety, relationship issues, marital and premarital issues, impulse control difficulties, stress management, and offer spiritual growth mentoring. I have experience meeting with individuals, couples and families.

Techniques I Use

Specialties

  • Couples Counseling External link

I have received training while getting my masters degree and have since then continued to gain experience and knowledge by meeting with couples on a regular basis.

  • Eclectic External link

In my sessions, I like to use approaches that best fit the client. I pull from CBT, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, family systems and strength based approaches.

  • Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) External link

I have received an intensive 2 year training in DBT and have led a DBT group. This orientation is incorporated into each session.

Issues I Treat

Specialties

  • Personal Growth External link

This is a vital part of counseling to feel like you are growing in ways that are helpful. I can offer specific activities and exercises to do outside of the session to help make the change that is needed.

  • Spirituality External link

This dimension in life can create much peace, confusion and sometimes distress. I'm comfortable sorting through whatever need you have regarding your spirituality.

  • Relationship / Marriage Issues External link

My hope is to understand what is contributing to the relational issues at hand. I've gained experience meeting with couples in private practice and community mental health. Relationships are a reality of life and my desire is for you to experience more satisfaction and enjoyment with others in your life. I have been trained in the Gottman Couples Therapy approach and apply it to our sessions.

  • Adjustment Disorder External link

The goal when treating this disorder is symptom relief and behavior change. The hope is to identify what is causing the distressing behavior and emotions and address them effectively.

  • Depression External link

Depression can be felt on many different levels. It can hold us back and hinder us from living the life we want to live! My hope is to help you sort through ways to combat this depression so you can break free from it weighing you down.
