My Ideal Client

If eating disorders, dieting or worrying about food, weight and shape feel like they have taken over your life, I can help you regain a sense of balance, control and peace around these issues. There are many unhelpful messages that surround us about how our bodies "should" look or what we "should" or "shouldn't" eat. It is my goal to help guide you back to the inner wisdom of your own body, so that eating--and living!--begin to feel like a nourishing, and even joyful, experience.

My Background and Approach

I have over 25 years of experience in the treatment of eating disorders and related problems, and I have trained and worked with internationally recognized experts in the field. I use evidence-based treatments that help clients obtain lasting change. To bring about this type of transformation, we will collaboratively set goals that focus on specific steps you can take and scientifically tested techniques you can use to shift patterns and cycles that may have been repeating for years, or even decades. Ultimately, my goal is to help you become free from the limitations, rules, stress, and negativity that cloud life when someone is suffering from an eating disorder or related concern. Even when you feel terribly stuck in negative cycles around eating, it is possible to use therapy techniques to find "a way out" ...A pathway to a more peaceful existence. I see my job as providing you with those techniques and working alongside you to guide and encourage you on that pathway.

My Values as a Therapist

Life is amazing, but it can also be so, so hard sometimes. Any one of us can get caught in negative cycles or ways of being, thinking or feeling that seem to be inescapable when we are in the midst of those tough moments. But we all have a capacity to change, and those seemingly inescapable worst moments DO change and shift over time. And the even better news, is that you have the ability to influence that change...to create it and direct it. That potential is within all of us, and when we can quiet the "noise" of our busy days, recenter on our inner wisdom, and really consider what is right for us, we can make incredible transformations in ourselves and our lives. As a therapist, I support my clients in finding their own wisdom, voice, and strength. I enter into every clinical session having 100% confidence that the better life that a client seeks is absolutely attainable. If I'm the right match for you as a therapist, I look forward to accompanying you on that journey!

Techniques I Use

Specialties

  • Cognitive Behavioral (CBT) External link

CBT helps clients achieve long-lasting change. This treatment is highly effective and often reduces symptoms within a few weeks. I trained at specialty medical centers and hospitals around the U.S. that use this type of evidenced-based treatment, and I've published articles, taught, & lectured on eating disorders at national conferences and universities. In all my work, I maintain a client-centered, weight-neutral focus to help clients make meaningful transformations in their lives.

Issues I Treat

Specialties

  • Eating Disorder External link

I provide treatment for eating disorders ranging from unhealthy dieting and restrictive eating, to binge eating, anorexia, & bulimia. In addition, I provide support to clients who have experienced weight stigma. In all of my work, I use a non-dieting, weight neutral approach. I have experience working with adult (18+) clients of all genders who seek treatment for eating disorders.
