My Ideal Client

I specialize in grief and loss and life transitions. My other specialties include chronic illnesses, end-of-life issues, caregiver fatigue, relationship issues, anxiety, depression, stress management, and alcohol and drug abuse. When I started my career I worked with clients in early Recovery regarding drug and alcohol issues. I went on to serve people with chronic health conditions, people experiencing grief and loss, and people who need support at the end of their lives.

My Approach to Helping

I like to support you in exploring the word “and”, as in ‘talk therapy’ and meditation, or ‘talk therapy’ and exercise, or ‘talk therapy and social support… You get the idea I’m sure. I have found that sustainable changes include multiple ands. Only you can decide the formula that works best for you. I believe in creating a person-centered plan that is unique to your needs, goals, and preferences. Above all, I believe therapy is a choice, and you get to choose what therapy interventions and strategies work for you.

My Values as a Therapist

I am here to support you with your goalss. I believe in treating everyone with respect, dignity, sensitivity, and compassion. My approach combines dialectical behavior therapy, mindfulness therapy, narrative therapy, solution-focused therapy, and principles of positive psychology. As a mental health therapist, I supplement my professional training if/as needed (and wanted) with my reiki training, and my training as an end-of-life doula through the Conscious Dying Institute. I'm sure you don't hear that every day! The concepts of conscious dying and conscious living are very similar.

Techniques I Use

Specialties

  • Mindfulness-based External link

The core of mindfulness-based therapy is simply to come to an understanding of how our internal reactions and responses may be connected to our emotions and behaviors. Once we identify patterns, we may employ mindfulness-based stress-management strategies, depending on your goals.

Issues I Treat

Specialties

  • Loss or Grief External link

The support you need when dealing with grief and loss in your life is about as unique as it gets. You may need professional emotional support. You may need education regarding what to expect in your grief and loss journey. Your grief and loss might be tied to trauma or lifelong family drama and you may need support regarding trauma or family dynamics. You may need all of the above and more. I work with you to assess what you may need the most, and assist you in creating a plan moving forward.
