You want to better understand yourself and get to the root of your symptoms. You want to learn new skills. You also realize that psychotherapy when done well takes time, patience, and a certain amount of energy. You know it will not always feel good in session or between, but that fully experiencing one's emotions is essential for growth and well-being. You want to feel seen and heard by your therapist, and you want the relationship to feel non-judging and non-shaming.
