My Ideal Client

Even when we do everything “right,” staying connected with ourselves and one another is no easy task. I aim to help clients develop a keener awareness of who they are as individuals, family members, parents, partners, etc. so that they feel more prepared to navigate the ups and downs inherent to life. I strive to support clients through a process of individual and relational exploration. From there, we can work together to develop a tailored and concrete plan for fostering positive change.

My Approach to Helping

I view my job as a privileged opportunity to build relationships with individuals and families during what is often a very difficult and vulnerable stretch of their journey. Fostering a partnership that is respectful, honest, and trustworthy is among my main objectives. Beyond that, I aim to help clients develop a keener awareness of who they are as individuals, friends, and family members so that they feel more prepared to navigate the ups and downs inherent to life. I do so by incorporating my expertise in child psychology, trauma-informed care, and attachment theory to creatively tailor techniques for each client’s specific psychological and developmental needs. From there, we can work together to develop a concrete plan for how to foster positive and lasting change.

My Personal Beliefs and Interests

I am a licensed psychologist who specializes in treatment of anxiety, depression, and parenting-related challenges. My education and training have provided me with opportunities to learn about and practice approaches designed to address an array of mental health disorders in children and adults. My experiences include work in various community mental health settings, assessment and treatment with children facing challenges associated with autism spectrum disorder, ADHD, and various learning disorders, and providing attachment and trauma-focused assessment and therapy services for children and families in the child welfare system. This breadth of training has taught me how to tailor my approach to the specific needs and style of each individual or family so that we can address how to best achieve a client’s goals.

Techniques I Use

Specialties

  • Attachment Theory External link

Attachment theory sits at the foundation of my therapeutic approach. I have extensive training in concepts associated with attachment theory and help parents understand both their chid's and their own attachment style to help identify obstacles in parenting and other family relationships.

  • Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) External link

ACT principles and interventions are among the most commonly utilized in my practice. This transdiagnostic approach aims at building a different relationship with one’s internal world in a manner that promotes flexibility, self-compassion, and connection to self.

  • Family Systems External link

In my training to become a psychologist, I have worked with families to help identify factors in their family dynamics and individual relationships that keep them stuck in harmful relational cycles. I rely on principles associated with Family Systems theory to help me understand the inner worlds of families and how to help foster positive change.

Issues I Treat

Specialties

  • Anxiety External link

I have experience and training in treating anxiety disorders that include generalized anxiety, phobias, and obsessive-compulsive disorder. I support clients in shifting their relationship with their thoughts and feelings in order to support their capacity to access relief and attain their goals.

  • Parenting External link

Parenting is hard. It only gets harder when children are facing mental health issues. I have expertise in issues pertaining to child and adolescent psychology that I utilize in helping parents better understand and meet the needs of their children.

  • Child or Adolescent Issues External link

I have dedicated my training to issues pertaining to child and adolescent mental health, including difficulties associated with parenting children whose moods and behaviors can be challenging to predict and manage.

  • PTSD External link

Unresolved trauma can have a significant impact on one's ability to navigate various aspects of their daily lives. By processing the past and creating a coherent and integrated narrative about their life experiences, individuals can feel more intentional, in control, and fulfilled in their connections to their family and themselves. Certified in Therapeutic Life Story Work.

  • Autism External link

I spent a year of my doctoral training learning how to assess and treat issues associated with autism spectrum disorder. I now specialize in helping parents understand how autism-related neurodevelopmental differences impact the way their children thinks, behaves, and relates in order to help with adjustment in the wake of diagnosis.
