My Approach to Helping

My overall goal is to help you be authentically you, set and hold appropriate boundaries for yourself, and feel connected. I work from the belief that a fully recovered life from an eating disorder is possible for any individual through exploration, personal narratives, and strengthening a sense of worthiness. I also believe that these same ways help clients struggling with body liberation/body image, anxiety, relationships, emotion regulation, and more. I value honoring each person’s journey and story. My clinical approach includes building connection, and shame resilience, to foster healing. I incorporate evidence-based practices like DBT, CBT, and Emotion Focused Therapy, while also being collaborative and client-centered.

My Personal Beliefs and Interests

I have worked in various treatment settings, including residential and intensive treatment for eating disorders and community/school mental health. I am passionate about treating individuals impacted by eating disorders, body image struggles, anxiety, and those struggling with emotion regulation. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (#C5559), registered with the Oregon Board of Licensed Professional Counselors and Therapists; and a Licensed Mental Health Counselor Associate (#LH61032464), registered with the Washington Department of Health.

Techniques I Use

  • Emotionally Focused External link

I believe that all emotions serve a purpose or function. I work to help clients identify, regulate, and express their emotions in more effective ways.

  • Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) External link

I integrate DBT components with a focus on skills-development in mindfulness and communication into our work. These DBT skills are supportive and effective at addressing issues with emotion regulation.

  • Cognitive Behavioral (CBT) External link

I use CBT tools and theories to help clients with their thoughts and thought patterns; CBT can be especially helpful in eating disorder/body image or anxiety related thoughts. CBT is the the leading evidence-based approach in helping numerous struggles and mental health disorders.

Issues I Treat

  • Eating Disorder External link

I have been passionate about helping clients with eating disorders throughout my career and schooling, and I have worked in various treatment settings in different roles. My hope is to help you identify and understand the function of your eating disorder, and to repair your relationship with food and your body.

  • Body Image Issues External link

With my background in eating disorder treatment, I work with clients to help them nurture a healthier and more connected relationship with themselves and their bodies. I will support you move from a place of shame, towards a place of acceptance.

  • Anxiety External link

Anxiety is displayed differently for everyone. Sometimes it feels as if your thoughts cannot slow down, you become frustrated and irritable, or you cannot focus on anything else. I believe that together we can work to improve your ability to observe what is happening in the moment, slow your thoughts, and take the appropriate action, allowing you to feel in control again.
