My Ideal Client

Are you feeling like you can't get out of a downward spiral in your life or feeling a general unhappiness? Maybe you are struggling with low mood or feeling depressed. Maybe it's a doom feeling, anxiety or uncontrollable worrying that interferes with sleep, relationships, success. My commitment as a therapist is centered on helping you understand the roadblocks and remove these obstacles safely. My specialties include depression, general anxiety, performance or social anxiety, and panic attacks.

My Background and Approach

I am a licensed clinical social worker practicing as a therapist for 25 years. I work strictly with adults of all ages who are struggling mainly with general anxiety, depression, social anxiety, performance anxiety, panic attacks, or a history of trauma. My approach is one of compassion, skill development, exploration of causes or triggers leading to the anxiety or depression, empowering you with knowledge to help you understand your responses, mindfulness practices and use of Cognitive Behavioral therapy focusing on making lasting changes in your path to living a happier more fulfilled life. I also use other approaches dependent on my clients natural way of healing and growth. I have a long history as a therapist supporting victims of violent crime such as interpersonal violence, community violence, sexual assaults, hate crimes, violence from war or conflict zones. In my 25 years as a therapist, I have worked consistently with immigrants fleeing from violence.

My Values as a Therapist

I am deeply grounded in the belief that people can heal from their traumas. I have seen this over the years with clients who have experienced various different levels of trauma, including repeat trauma, or early trauma. People need to be given a safe space to understand themselves, their reactions, and supported in learning ways to cope with injustices in their lives as well as its consequences on their mental health. I value everyone's story, their uniqueness, their incredible strength of survival. I believe listening with compassion, empowering and honoring one's strength, and being completely present with my clients helps set the foundation of safety and trust. As a therapist, my goal is to also give options and teach skills so that my clients can begin to heal and make changes that support their life goals. As a Latina immigrant from South America, I am particularly drawn to other immigrant clients or 1st or 2nd generation coping with cultural differences.
