see above statement on Gottman Relationship Therapy
I have been studying and working with clients with addiction problems for 20 years. I believe in a medical theory of addiction that explains addiction as a disease that is progressive, genetic, incurable but treatable. I also have studied extensively about recovery from addiction and worked with multiples of clients that are trying to live life clean and sober with purpose and honesty.
My primary therapeutic orientation is cognitive behavioral therapy because I believe that our thinking can influence how we feel and how we behave. I have found this approach to be very successful in working with an array of problem areas including addictive denial, negative self-esteem, deflated thinking involved in depression, catastrophic thinking with anxiety, and relationship conflict.
Specialties
My primary specialty over the past 20 years has been working with people who are in the grips of alcohol and/or drug addiction or struggling with substance abuse that is beginning to cause problems in their lives. As a recovering addict myself, I have a great affinity toward helping others with these kinds of problems.
I work with clients who are dealing with relationship or marital problems through Gottman Relationship Therapy tools and training experience. This approach is very successful in helping people get beyond their complaints and find a sense of renewed admiration and love with their partners.
My education regarding trauma and PTSD, as well as my experience working with numerous female and male clients who have suffered from abusive histories and chronic symptoms that hinder their personal development and relationships has been very rewarding.
I have extensive education and experience helping clients who struggle with seeking esteem and love through things outside themselves, and who have tendencies toward controlling and enabling those in their lives who are alcoholics and addicts.
