My Ideal Client

What if there's nothing wrong with you? Maybe that sounds like an odd question to come across on your journey to try and sort out what's wrong with you. Maybe you're rattling off a list of what's wrong with you. Maybe that question feels like another example of someone invalidating the challenges you face, making you feel like you're making it up. I don't believe you're making it up. I believe you do face real challenges, and that it would be much easier if you could fix what's wrong with you.

My Approach to Helping

But, I don't believe there is anything wrong with you. My approach to counseling is to get really curious about what it's like to be you so that you can feel understood and, in feeling understood, feel seen and accepted for who you are. Approach is grounded in the paradoxical belief that accepting ourselves is the key to unlocking the force within us that desires to grow and be at harmony with the world around us. In short: it's a lot easier to get more of what we want when we realize we are okay with what we have. As soon as we label someone as bad, selfish, lazy, dirty, evil, etc., we lose any need to be curious about them; it's just the nature of those sorts of people to do such a thing, or be such a way. That's why I don't believe there is anything wrong with you, because I believe you are worth understanding.

My Personal Beliefs and Interests

From this foundation, I employ a range of modalities and orientations to help clients understand and appreciate themselves and their resources more and more. These include EMDR, play therapy, art therapy, emotionally focused therapy, and a polyvagal approach to therapy, among others. I have a passion for helping clients reprocess trauma, in order to make find there voice in the midst of all that has happened to them. I believe that as humans we are in a constant state of process, and that we have the privilege and responsibility to help create each moment as it unfolds. I would be honored to engage in this creative process with you, wherever you may be on your journey.
