My Approach to Helping

With adequate resources and support, every person can reach optimum health in all regards…physically, emotionally, and mentally. Counseling can be an avenue to gain perspective outside of oneself that introduces new possibilities for change, growth, and wellness. I am a Wellness Therapist who treats the whole person. My education is in clinical mental health, nutrition, and exercise science. I employ an eclectic and integrative approach to therapy, with a strong reliance on cognitive behavioral therapy, because I believe best practice includes the understanding of and inclusivity of both a person’s physical and mental health.

My Personal Beliefs and Interests

I seek to work from a place of cultural humility and to bring an anti-oppression lens to bear on my work with all my clients. I value relationships and approach my work with respect for all. I strive in both my perspectives and practices, to work consciously and consistently to challenge historic patterns of marginalization and oppression including racism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia, and discrimination in all its forms. I acknowledge that my experience and privilege can create obstacles to accurate compassion and anti-oppression work in therapy and I am committed to continual and ongoing growth. I take responsibility for making a safe space for your voice, listening deeply to your experiences, stories, and histories, while being sensitive each client's perspectives and identities.

Techniques I Use

  • Humanistic  External link

Humanistic therapy is a positive approach to psychotherapy that focuses on a person's individual nature. It emphasizes the importance of being your true self in order to lead the most fulfilling life. It's based on the principle that everyone has their own unique way of looking at the world.

  • Couples Counseling External link

In couples counseling, partners gain new perspectives about each other and the way they relate, and they also learn new ways of being together. Couples counseling includes “skills work” to help partners actually do something different, as well as helping them explore their feelings and thoughts with the other(s).

  • Cognitive Behavioral (CBT) External link

Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) is a type of talking treatment which focuses on how your thoughts, beliefs and attitudes affect your feelings and behavior, and teaches you coping skills for dealing with different problems. It combines cognitive therapy (examining the things you think) and behavior therapy (examining the things you do).

Issues I Treat

  • Adjustment Disorder External link

Life can be stressful and change can be hard. I act as a consistent landing place & am available to support and encourage through change. I teach people how to assess their lifestyles...how they’re feeding and treating their bodies...in relation to the sense of wellness they have in their daily lives. I support professionals in learning to manage the stresses of their work and growing leadership or building their business. And I am registered with the State to Supervise LPC and LMFT interns.

  • Parenting External link

I help parents learn how to nurture meaningful and healthy relationships with their children, from infants to young adults. I hold space for new parents to navigate all the important and often challenging transitions before, during, and after the arrival of their children.

  • Relationship / Marriage Issues External link

I see adult individuals and couples looking to improve their relationships including LGBTQ couples, non-traditional partnerships, those with fidelity issues, and separating/divorcing and coparents. I act as a guide through the commonly dizzying world of dating, no matter what goals or preferences in relationships are.
