My Ideal Client

I work with people who struggle with life direction, motivation, intrusive thoughts, overwhelm, rumination, disconnection, traumatic stress, and a variety of other life concerns. I use a variety of mind-body techniques, focusing on self-exploration and awareness, acceptance and mindfulness, challenging assumptions, developing skills and values, connecting with one's body, and making space for healing.

My Background and Approach

As a therapist, my goal is to provide an authentic, safe space for people to process their experiences, develop skills, and move toward building the life that they want to be living. I utilize a variety of approaches, including Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP), and Sensorimotor Psychotherapy to treat a number of conditions, including general and specific anxieties, obsessive-compulsive disorder, depression, burn out, as well as the impact of trauma. My hope is to meet you where you are on your individual journey in life, and walk along side you as you navigate and respond to life's challenges. I value decolonization, compassion, genuineness, and non-judgment in my practice.

Why I Became a Therapist

I first took an interest in clinical psychology at a fairly young age. I grew up in a household with struggles of substance abuse, trauma, mental illness, and poor coping. As I struggled to find my own peace, I turned to philosophy and examining my own mind and suffering. I pursued a career in mental health because of my strong belief that one of the most powerful things a person can do to radically better their life is to engage in self reflection. I can sincerely say that I am passionate about and feel thoroughly privileged to be able to support people both through isolated moments of need and in long term pursuit of change.

Techniques I Use

Specialties

  • Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) External link

Acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) is an action-oriented approach to psychotherapy that focused on dropping our struggle with challenging emotions and, instead, accepting hard feelings and not allowing them to get us stuck in places where we don't want to stay. ACT uses tools to help clients unhook from things that are holding them back, make touch with the here and now, and move forward with what really matters in life.

  • Exposure and Response Prevention Therapy External link

Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) therapy is a therapeutic modality that was developed to help people confront their anxieties, fears, obsessions, and phobias. When people are fearful of a thing or idea, they can completely change their lives to make avoiding this fear possible, often making the fear stronger and life unbearable. ERP focuses on gradual and controlled exposure ultimately aimed at taking the power away from anxiety and allowing people to re-engage with their own lives again.

  • Sensorimotor External link

This is a bottom up approach that allows one to learn from the wisdom of their body, and what it is communicating about one's experience and needs. This approach can also utilize physical techniques to transform both cognitive and emotional responses that are otherwise challenging to understand or influence, giving the individual more freedom in how they can move within their own life.
