My Ideal Client

How old were you when you started trying to control your body? How long have you turned to food for comfort? Or found comfort in self-restraint? It’s exhausting, and likely you’re here because a part of you wants relief from this endless cycle that has taken over your life. Can it be okay to listen to that part of you? To trust your inner knowing that you deserve to live a life feeling at ease with food and unashamed of your body?

My Approach to Helping

I’ve been in the mental health field for over a decade providing direct clinical care, supervision, consultation, and trainings. My clinical approach is informed by Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT), an adaptation of CBT that is backed by the latest research in the treatment of eating disorders. By centering your ability to cultivate self-compassion, we’ll address the shame and self-criticism underneath your struggle to have a positive relationship with food and your body. I also regularly work with registered dieticians and medical physicians who monitor physical health and nutritional needs, which gives us the space to focus our attention beyond the food. My role is to help guide you back to a compassionate connection with your body. We might notice some of the ways that your lived experience has taught you to think about yourself, about others, and what to expect from the world. We’ll observe and reconnect with parts of yourself that need your compassion the most.

My Personal Beliefs and Interests

I offer a unique perspective as someone with both the lived experience of an eating disorder and receiving doctoral training in the treatment of eating disorders. I am passionate about the social justice of deconstructing fat phobia and helping clinicians and clients examine their own biases. I also believe in the healing power of compassion focused interventions to help us release shame.
