My Approach

The therapeutic relationship is always at the core of my work with clients, and I aim to establish a sense of trust and safety with each individual. It is important to make therapy a place that feels positive and supportive… and even fun! I work primarily from a psychodynamic and attachment-based perspective, while also drawing from trauma-informed care and interpersonal neurobiology. I am rather eclectic and flexible in my approach, and I collaborate with my clients adjusting to each individual’s preference and therapeutic need. Most children and teens do not want to talk about their problems. This doesn’t mean they are unable to or unwilling to process their feelings, but it does mean they may need a more creative approach than just sitting in a room and talking to an adult. I work hard to try to find the best means of expression for each client. This can include creating visual art, sharing music, movement, or imaginative play and storytelling.

My Background

I hold an MSW from Smith College and a post-graduate certificate in Art Therapy from Marylhurst University. I have enjoyed working with youth and families in a wide variety of settings, including schools, residential treatment facilities, and community mental health. My work has largely focused on treating trauma, attachment-related issues, and depression/anxiety. I have significant experience in case management and supporting families in navigating systems, including special education and child welfare.
