My Ideal Client

My work extends from providing therapy to clients with Autism Spectrum Disorder to adults needing support with understanding a family member with ASD. I enjoy working with parents needing a space to vent about the challenges in navigating multiple roles. I work with Latinx adults seeking support regarding identity concerns due to acculturation or upbringing. I help clients work on developing self confidence and learning ways to set boundaries due to various issues.

How I Can Help You

I allow the therapeutic relationship to build naturally in a relaxed space where the client leads the session. We jointly set your goals and subsequently analyze how your past, present and future are causing negative emotions. We dive into your life narrative to help you find self acceptance and new meaning for your future. During this time I integrate various challenges to help you find answers that support self analyses as well as understanding of others. Sessions may include relaxation skills, such as breathing, visualization or meditation. I often utilize metaphors to increase self awareness and increase confidence in attempting interventions discussed in sessions. I find that therapeutic relationships that are rooted in genuine kindness and a welcoming presence strengthens the progress of therapy because it shows our humanity as therapists.

Why We Started this Group Practice

Mind Body Soul Mental Health was started by my husband, Dr. David Ixtlahuac PsyD, LMFT, and me. It is a long time dream to open up our practice that focused on our specialties and serves various populations in the city of Portland, including Latinx individuals. Through our experiences and training we’ve found success in treating the whole person: Mind, Body and Soul. We focus on body concerns or responses, neurodiverisity, development, cultural upbringing, identity concerns and welcome discussions about spirituality. I am a first generation Latina with parents born in El Salvador and Peru. I lived in Peru during my childhood and saw first hand the disparities between class differences in a third world country. Coupled with my education in Multicultural Studies, I learned that countries of origin, immigration waves and financial standing contributes to various diasporas in the United States which affect the children of Latino immigrants, faced with challenges growing up here.
