My Ideal Client

Because my clients are in the LGBTQIA+ community, they are resilient, have big hearts and inspire me every day with their authenticity. They have also had their share of heartache and loss, and many live with anxiety, depression, trauma, panic, and dissociation. In my practice, we work with the whole complex self and learn to embrace difficult or unpleasant emotions while maximizing self appreciation and love. I am a collaborator and facilitator; we can explore gender, relationships, sex & more.

My Approach to Helping

My work is collaborative and client-centered. I want us to define goals based on what you would like to see in your own life. I use existential, metacognitive and narrative therapy orientations with concepts from acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT). I am interested in the ways that you define yourself, your relationships and the world. Using these perspectives can shed light on the patterns you find yourself in, and help find a way of being that more closely aligns with your values. Even the traits about yourself that you like the least are trying to serve a purpose! Sometimes we grow past a certain way of coping, and benefit from exploring new options. When we are no longer operating from a place of avoidance, opportunities begin to multiply, and our true self leads. You already have all of the tools you need within yourself, and you know yourself best. Let's find out which paths are serving you, and which ones you may let go.

Why I am a Good Fit for You

Gender and sexuality are complex concepts that mean something different to everyone. I am not here to tell you how to transition, who to have relationships with, or to judge your decisions. I want to help you find the most authentic understanding of yourself in a way that moves away from fear and denial and toward loving acceptance of yourself and the important people in your life. As a gender therapist, it is important to me to incorporate my client's values in our identity work. I have specific training in gender assessments and writing referral letters for gender affirming care, including top and bottom surgery, and hormone replacement therapy. I offer special sessions to address these goals. I am comfortable working with people ages 14+, especially those in the LGBTQ+ community. I am inclusive of polyamorous, non-monogamous and kinky clients, as well as those who engage in BDSM. I am happy to discuss sexual concerns and desires, for clients who are in relationship or not.

Issues I Treat

Specialties

  • Gender Identity External link

Whether you're exploring your gender identity for the first time, need support coming out, or looking for referrals for gender affirming medical care, I can help! My practice focuses on queer, trans and non-binary people, including youth ages 14+. I'm competent at helping clients with sexual and relational concerns (including non-monogamy, kink and BDSM) as well as gender identity and expression. I am a non-binary gender therapist with lived experience and interest in unique identities.

  • LGBTQ Issues External link

In addition to being part of the queer and trans community, I have worked specifically with LGBTQ+ clients for a range of concerns, from exploring gender identity and pronouns, to navigating dysphoria and discrimination, to identifying and celebrating what makes them feel most empowered. I have taken specific coursework during my graduate school training for trans and genderqueer therapy concerns. I love discussing ways to build chosen family and how to advocate for your needs.

  • Relationship / Marriage Issues External link

There are countless ways to have fulfilling romantic, sexual and platonic relationships, and there is always something new to learn about our partners. I would love to help you with clearer communication, discussions about sex, exploring non-monogamy, negotiating boundaries, and more. During my Marriage, Couples and Family Therapy graduate program, I took specific courses in sex therapy and couples therapy, and I'm kink and BDSM inclusive. What unexpressed need could use your attention and care?

  • OCD External link

OCD is one of the most misunderstood diagnoses, with many clinicians having no training in treating OCD at all. Intrusive thoughts and compulsions can be isolating and exhausting, so it can be frustrating to struggle to find a therapist who really knows OCD. I have attended trainings and conferences with IOCDF to sharpen my skills with treating OCD. I use a combination of metacognitive therapy, mindfulness, and exposure & response prevention (including imaginal exposures) to treat symptoms.
