My Ideal Client

Sometimes life feels as if it has us stuck on this side of the lake, looking across, wondering what it's like over there. We get anxious, depressed, traumatized, discouraged, downtrodden, isolated, feeling as if there is no hope, and just wish we could be like "normal" people. The facts of life are we cannot do it alone. I look at the therapeutic-journey as if we jump in the boat, side by side, and start rowing across the water to get you to the other side. You are the Captain. I am the Guide.

My Background and Approach

I spent much of my adult life in Construction, Production and Manufacturing trades before going back to school to earn my Master's Degree in Professional Counseling. I’ve been in the field since 2007 and have 14 years of Post-Graduate Clinical Counseling experience. I've been providing Telehealth Counseling services since 2019. I have practical experience serving both self-referred clients as well as those involved in the Criminal Justice System. I have successfully helped persons with varying clinical issues including; Anxiety, Depression, Relationship problems, Men’s issues, Faith-based struggles and most Mental Health disorders. I specialize in PTSD, Domestic Violence Interventions and Addictions Counseling. I am a Trauma Informed Counselor who is also registered with "Star Behavioral Health Providers," trained and experienced working with Military Veterans. I use an eclectic approach from various therapeutic modalities with an Existential and Narrative therapy foundation.

Why I Became a Therapist

I've grown up with lived experience. I was raised in an abusive, domestic violence plagued alcoholic home. I finally ran away when I was a teenager. Feeling lost and alone living in the horrors of the streets and homelessness, I believed what I was told, "You'll never amount to anything." Encouraged by recovery-community friends that I would be a "Great Counselor," and with my back against the wall not being able to swing a hammer for a living anymore, I pulled myself from homelessness and went back to school. Part of the the recovery-community's creed is, "We share our experience, strength and hope, so that together we might heal." Nowhere does that suggest we can walk the road of recovery alone; let alone the road of life. With learning to ask for help, embodied with experience, strength, hope, and a new education, I entered the field with the attitude, "If I can do it, so can others." I love what I do, and do what I love! It would be a privilege, pleasure, and honor to serve you.

At my core are Existential and Narrative therapies. The intersect between the two is "meaning-making" and re-authoring one's life towards their "preferred-story." I have studied and have been trained in multiple therapeutic modalities; most often submitting significantly more continuing education units than are required to maintain my license and certification. All of it are pieces of the puzzle applied when appropriate to help others develop their own picture of their life and well-being.
