My Ideal Client

Clients usually have an interest in the symbolic, the creative, and the transverbal approaches to personal wellness and healing. They may see therapy as a call to adventure and inner exploration. "Disasters catapult people into experiences beyond ordinary reality. Although there are many ways to initiate a heroic journey, the call to adventure usually comes unexpectedly." --Gita Morena, The Wisdom of Oz: Reflections of a Jungian Sandplay Therapist

My Approach to Helping

I offer a non-judgmental and supportive environment where clients of all ages may process difficult feelings; heal from past traumas; reduce anxiety; and come to know and accept themselves more fully through art; sandplay, and mindfulness practice. Open and curious therapeutic inquiry in the free and protected space promotes the integration of shadow, which brings with it revitalized possibilities for living in balance within oneself and with the world.

My Personal Beliefs and Interests

I hold a Master's degree in Art Therapy/Counseling as well as an MA in Compatative Literature. I specialize in Mindfulness-based Art Therapy and Sandplay for individuals and small groups. I work with clients facing a variety of issues, including: anxiety; grief and loss; the search for meaning; life transitions; depression; trauma; and challenges with emotional regulation.

Techniques I Use

Specialties

  • Sand Tray External link

I offer Sandplay Therapy in the spirit of Swiss psychoanalysts Carl Jung and Dora Kalff. As a multidimensional tool, Sandplay facilitates meaning-making through vivid construction of an imaginal world using archetypal symbols and materials. Sandplay can help a client heal old wounds and access the deepest layers of consciousness.

  • Mindfulness-based External link

I am a Licensed Soto Zen Buddhist Lay Minister. Awareness practices to reduce compulsive thoughts, habits, and distortions to experience the fullness of reality just as it is through all-acceptance and the cultivation of unshakable liberation of mind.

  • Art Therapy External link

Images open a door into psyche and reveal more than words alone, often offering up their own solutions to a client's dilemma. As Mary Watkins writes, 'the image in its specificity lends us the imaginal background to each experience, thus raising the day world onto the plane of metaphorical meanings...[becoming] an eye through which one perceives and senses.'
