My Approach to Helping

My role is to support, guide and walk through this journey of self-discovery and healing. believe that we are comprised of psychological, physiological, relational and spiritual facets that are all interrelated. Therefore, an integrated counseling approach will help understand your story to bring awareness to the many facets that make up your varying identities. I work from a systems perspective that helps to uncover how your family-of-origin and past experiences have shaped the person you are today. I also incorporate my studies in Emotionally Focused therapy, Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR) and various mindfulness modalities.

My Personal Beliefs and Interests

I hold a Masters in Marriage and Family Therapy. I also have a background in education working specifically with adolescents of color. I have a Bachelors degree from New York University and a Masters in Curriculum and Development. It is an honor to build a safe and sacred space to begin the process of healing. I enjoy working with the marginalized experience of People of Color, immigrants, refugees and those navigating a bi-cultural experience. I work with individuals and couples on issues related to inter-generational trauma, racial trauma, racial identify, anxiety, depression, grief/loss, relationships, codependency, trauma, life transitions, infertility, self-worth/identity and communication skills. I also welcome conversations about spirituality and the integration of faith to facilitate growth.

Issues I Treat

  • Racial Identity External link

Our ethnicity and our race defines who we are, how we see ourselves and how others see us. Through our interactions with others, along with the unconscious messages we are sent, learning how to love who we are in our own skin can be challenging. As a person of color, I have navigated these waters and have the experience to help you uncover your own racial identity.

  • Women's Issues External link

Infertility, postpartum issues, self-esteem, being enough, measuring up are issues that can envelop our lives, yet how we treat and heal our hurts and pains further defines our future. Let me support you through these experiences, using a variety of tools: narrative therapy, solution-focused therapy, Cognitive Behavioral therapy.

  • Family Conflict External link

Family dynamics can be muddled and difficult to manage. I can help you determine what your goals are and get you to a place where there is harmony even in the midst of the impossible.

  • Relationship / Marriage Issues External link

There is no perfect marriage/relationship, but there are interpersonal and communication skills that can be honed to manifest a healthier marriage/relationship for you and possibly your children. I am an excellent facilitator who can guide you through pre-marital counseling, marriage counseling, blending families, co-parenting, infidelity, sexual dysfunction etc.

  • Anxiety External link

Anxiety in all shapes, forms, and degrees can take over our lives and our relationships. I work with your lifestyle and values to uncover the strengths that can propel us forward. Structured baby steps until we can feel alive once again!
