My Ideal Client

I primarily work with Asian / Asian American adults of various cultural and ethnic backgrounds. Most my clients come to me because of recent/current "crisis" (feelings of overwhelm, work stressors, parental/sibling conflict, divorce/separation, loss of job) but underneath the crisis is often decades of "stuff" that have been simmering. While these challenges are universal, I find that there are often cultural and racial entanglements that I find helpful to hold in mind.

My Background and Approach

My approach is warm, collaborative, and at times, direct. My main thoeoretical orientation is culturally informed psychodynamic/psychoanalytic therapy. This means that in our work together, we will try to better understand how early and significant experiences created patterns of being and relating that are no longer helpful to you. Often times these patterns are unconscious and out of your awareness. When light is shed on them, more options for change become possible. I take my work with clients seriously by going to my own therapy, by consulting with other colleagues (weekly and when the need arises), and by attending trainings and seminars regularly.

Issues I Treat

Specialties

  • Family Conflict External link

For many, family relationships can be complicated. And, for those navigating values and expectations from different cultures, family relationships can be even more complex. How to reconcile feelings of love, appreciation, respect with disappointment, resentment, and anger? How to have a relationship with family while maintaining your own sanity and well being?

  • Depression External link

Depressive symptoms is on a spectrum of severity and shows up differently for different people. You might be highly functioning but lacking in joy and vitality. You might be doing everything that is required of you but nothing else. And, maybe you are hiding your sadness and struggles inside yourself, suffering alone. We will work towards not just symptom relief but address root causes.

  • Personal Growth External link

Much of our personal growth is limited by our conditioning / templates that we have created or that were created for us. To reach our potential, we need to examine the conditioning / templates and break free from them.
